Sport mode

I love that button. As far as I can discern it changes the exhaust note and increases the number of revs at which gear changes take place. Works for me! However, I am curious to know if there are any other shenanigans going on.

So you've PDK.
Which button? On center console vs. rotary dial on steering wheel?
It also sends a small payment to Porsche directly from your bank account each time you press it... jk ;)

Lowers target set points for oil and water temperature. Changes software mapping between throttle pedal and throttle plate.

Mine is the center console button.

The gear change mapping is by far what I enjoy most about the Sport button. It takes my Boxster from a reasonably well geared car to near-supercar speed gear changes. Honestly, this is when the PDK really shines and almost brings as much fun as a manual 6.

Are you not talking about the sports response button - little one in the middle of the rotary dial within here rather than switching to sports mode - outer bit - itself ?

If you have PASM the Sport Mode firms up the suspension.

On my Sport Chrono equipped Cayman, switching to Sport does not change my PASM selection. It only firms it up if I switch it to Sport Plus. Same with my Macan. Does it switch PASM to firm on non-Sport Chrono cars?

On our 6-speed I prefer sports plus, not as many exhaust burbles but keeps the turbo spooling between gears. My wife loves Sport though. Regarding the Macan I believe our GTS does firm up the PASM in Sport.

I don’t think it does, but not certain. Gfspencer, you may want to double check that - I also have 718 T, and going into Sport mode leaves PASM in normal/comfort. It’s a manual selection, unless you switch to S+.

On the rotary dial, sport is my default. Sport plus just feels a little sharper, particularly with the shifts and holding gears longer. PASM does get sportier.
my individual setting mirrors sport plus, only with sports suspension. I am sure there are items I can’t fully benefit from trying to replicate sport plus.

The sport response button (in middle), that’s just a blast. Kicks down and holds gears like no other more. One can only compare it to Grandmaster Jams “it’s my birthday” button in Thor Ragnarok!

My particular vehicle does not have one of those. I am referring to the button on the center console.

Same as mine: Changes the shift points, increases oil cooling, turns off auto start/stop, turns on PSE, and it better controls the engine management system as stated above.

For reference, there are other tables with the same info:

Sport seems to change the throttle response to “more sensitive/less natural”. For my GTS 4.0 I much prefer Sport+ throttle map but I keep PASM in normal - god bless individual settings

Same. I like individual mode the most as I've programmed it to be in Sport Plus for the very reasons you listed and I have PASM in comfort which would otherwise go to firm if I just switched to Sport Plus. This is why I don't understand why some people love to advise against Sport Chrono on manual cars.
