I will admit, I have a thing about car seats. I am extremely picky and would never buy a car without getting some decent seat time first. I'm a thin guy without much padding on the backside but I also have long legs so I need a seat that cushions me the right way but also has enough thigh support. I hear the Sport Seats Plus are much more comfortable than the standard seats and most places seem to recommend them even over the 14 way power seats.

Those of you who opted for Sport Seats Plus, were you able to try them out before you purchased? I have just started taking a look at dealerships in the area (and we have two in the metro Atlanta area) but it doesn't seem like those are a normally stocked dealer option with most having either the standard seats or the 14 way power seats.

The upside is I have plenty of time but I will definitely want to try a 718 with the Sport Seats Plus before I make a final purchase decision.

I have the sports seats plus in my 718. As a comparison in my 987 I have just the standard seats. I did not try the sports seats before getting them in the 718. (as you said the dealer only had the basic seats of the 5 million way adjustable seats).

I am not disappointed - they are fantastic! I'm tall at 6-4 and pretty thin, and I love these seats. You won't be disappointed IMO.

I too have little posterior padding and I didn’t know how much more comfortable the sport seats plus were until I test drove a 718 Cayman base that had them. I ordered my 718 Cayman S with sport seats plus and they are great. The car arrived the first of the year and I now have 1700 miles on it and find them considerably better for me than the standard seats on the 2014 Boxster S I had. I live in northern Illinois and the weather has been below freezing most of the time, often with snow and ice, making the roads quite rough, so I’m especially impressed with the seats' support and comfort. They along with the regular setting in PASM (my Boxster did not have PASM ) make for a surprisingly enjoyable ride. Taut but smooth. I recommend both options.

I sat in the sport seat plus 2-way, sport seat plus 18-way and sport seat 14-way before ordering. The 2-way were out right away due to the lack of seat cushion depth adjustment and general adjustment options. Couldn't get comfortable in them, at all. The 18-way were better but after an hour or so they got a little uncomfortable no matter what I did. So for me it was the 14-way standard sport seats. They just fit me best. I'd recommend testing the 14 and 18 way if possible, they feel quite different.

The 18-way can do that too. But they gave me back issues. The 14 don't. There really is no substitute for trying them out first.
I've found the 18 way seats to be the best I've had, but the fact there are so many adjustments made getting it just right quite hard to achieve. Thank goodness for the memory function. I broke my lower spine years ago (fell off a roof & the lower vertebrae caught the path edge) & I'm really sensitive to it if the seat isn't quite right.

I am of a similar build to what you describe and have the Sports Seats Plus. I test drove multiple cars for several hours before purchasing and have since driven a Macan with 18 way Seats.

After almost 2000 miles my impression is.... I love the Sports Seats Plus and would certainly specify them again! - The memory function of the 18 way seats was nice but as I drive the car 99% of the time it doesn’t really have that much advantage.

My only concern with these Seats is how they will wear, you really do “drop” into the Seats when positioned correctly and my fear is the side bolsters may give after awhile as they take strain whilst getting in/out.

On balance, would I recommend them, yes 100%.

Thanks folks, I appreciate all of the feedback. I will certainly be on the lookout for any cars that show up at my local dealers that have the Sport Seats Plus and I will also try out the 14 way since those seem to be everywhere. I also had the idea of calling up the Atlanta PEC and asking them if they had any 718 cars with the Sport Seats Plus as I was probably going to do a session anyway before I committed to a purchase. One way or another I am hoping I can try them out.

Yup, I'm on the same boat with several members above. I ordered a base model Cayman and I didn't want to spend more that $71k MSRP. Which means I was very specific about my budget. The 18 way Sport Plus Seats made it into my build. That's how important they were to me... I'm 6'4 and about 230lbs. The adjustability and comfort just grabbed me. The 14 way is simply a no-go for me.

I've had the SSPlus without memory on 3 boxsters now and find them excellent. Only sometimes when I'm wearing a big puffa jacket and would like to move the seat a bit further back (I like to drive like I'm sitting in the bath), I wonder if the standard seats being a bit thinner would give you an extra inch or so backwards adjustment.

Guess I am very much the exception. I thought the (2-way) standards were more than sufficient for my purposes. But then again, I am 5'3" and I have the impression that standard seats seem to create issues for tall(er) people... If I had cash to spare, I may have opted for sports plus but to me other options were more important...

I tried all 3 seats types before I placed my order, and for me (5'9" - 160 lbs.), the Power Sport Seats (14-way) felt the best. The standard Sport Seats (2-way) didn't have enough adjustability or any memory function, which I prefer. I also dislike the look of the black plastic adjustment handle that comes with the 2 way seats. As for the Adaptive Sport Seats Plus (18-way), the larger bolsters just didn't "sit" right with me.

You absolutely need to sit in each of the seat options before you buy. Like most of the choices we make when creating our builds, seat comfort is an individual thing. Thanks to Porsche, we have options.
