I have read through the posts and seems like a few people liked the GT Steering Wheel and strongly recommends it. I realize that the smaller wheel is a tracking/sporty tradition.

Aesthetics aside, are there any difference in the steering feel with slightly smaller diameter? The caliber of the wheel seems to be similar, or at least from the online pictures. I don't think the steering ratio changes.

My local dealer does not have both side by side for comparison, although some non-Caymen (911) model does have GT Steering Wheel. Don't know if those are same as GT Steering for Caymen though.

I think they are the same wheel. That being said, I did feel them side by side and the GT wheel was awesome.
Thanks for replying. How was it awesome? Can you describe the tactile difference of the GT wheel vs the basic steering wheel?

Couple of the other forumnites have said it feels great but no specific descriptor, so I am intrigued to know in what way. Thanks.

Getting into the car, I brace a hand on the door sill and drop on in... The smaller wheel gives a bit more clearance for moving legs! On the other hand, the smaller wheel is more likely to hide the numbers at the top of the tach.

I am assuming that with the memory function with 14way seats/Premium that the wheel moves up automatically providing more clearance as it does in the 981s? That is what I had on my 2014 and currently have with my 2016. I am interested in this question as I spec out the 2019 config to order. I have the Sport Wheel option on my 2016.

According to the configurator, diameter difference is only 15mm or 0.4%. (375mm vs 360mm) I am struggling with understanding how that can feel very different. But I haven't tried it so I don't know. I am not ordering it though.

I does though. It felt different to me. Keep in mind, the wheels are the same for the 911. You should be able to A/B test the wheels pretty easily.

I was able to finally try out the two different steering wheels side by side today. The thickness of the rims felt the same to me, but the GT Steering Wheel definitely is slightly smaller than the standard with my shoulders and arms ever so slightly less opened up. The trim of the GT is black with the silver screw down sections, and the standard steering wheel is silver trimmed.

I eventually went with the standard steering wheel since it is exactly the same as my Macan that I loved.

Thank you for all of your input in helping me figure this out.

And yes, the range of steering wheels are the same for 911 and other Porsche models.

I tried both and preferred the standard one. I think it looks classier - it's the design from the 918. The GT wheel has bits of metal screwed onto it for no apparent purpose. It's smaller, but I question whether anyone would want a smaller wheel on the Cayman. The steering is not as heavily power-assisted as most cars nowadays. The only thing wrong with the standard wheel IMO is that its rim isn't wide enough - I like fat rimmed wheels - but the GT wheel is equally skinny.

I miss the skinny wheels with spinner knobs from my youth. >:D
 The funny thing about old cars (especially sports cars) is how little room there is inside and how skinny the steering wheel rims are. I've got an old TR and the steering wheel is huge and very, very skinny. It's absolutely horrible but I can't change it because I'm keeping it all original.

I'm thinking more along the lines of old American Iron. I lament the passing of wing windows and the high beam switch on the floor as well as big skinny steering wheels, bench seats too. My eldest child was conceived n the front seat of a 63 Chevy SS Impala. 0:)

My F100's steering wheel was so big it nearly rubbed my thighs, and I'm not a big man. But, I could fix just about anything that went wrong with that truck including the crank windows that failed a couple of times!
