The button toggling the steering wheel heater on/off is located on the wheel itself, just behind where wheel is supported by the lower spoke. It is not a problem at all during normal driving, only when parallel parking, backing out of a space or garage, making a u-turn on a narrow street, etc. (any time the wheel is turned more than 90 degrees or so). When turning the wheel, the button frequently gets inadvertently pushed by one of my finger tips and even in 90+ F temperatures now it is immediately obvious the wheel is getting very warm (it is very effective). Does anyone else have this problem? A simple solution, that will probably never happen, would be for Porsche to program this function so a quick double press is required to toggle the steering wheel heater on/off.

I agree, it is possible to accidentally switch it on which can be a distraction and drama whilst driving trying to find the button again! I notice it can also make the cabin fog up very quickly!

Though it has been cold here so I have used it a few times and can now better locate the button to switch it off as it does get too hot very quickly.

I have hit the button on my Macan and the Boxster for the same reasons you’ve mentioned. Also turned it off in the winter too making me wonder “why isn’t the steering wheel warm anymore” lol. I agree a simple double click would be a nice enhancement.

I've got it, though I never actually feel the need to use it. I tried it a couple of times when I first had the car & haven't turned it on in the following 2 years +, not even accidentally, apart from 5 minutes ago after reading this thread. Even then I only did so to check it actually still worked having never encountered the problem you've described. I just don't find a heated wheel is necessary as my hands never get cold enough to use it. Like I said I've now used it a total of 3 times, once to try it, once to demonstrate it & once to check it actually still worked.

I’ve got the heated steering wheel.
As the car is my daily driver, I do use it on cold days in winter, when you first get in the car along with the heated seats until the car warm’s up inside.
It makes getting in the car when it’s really cold much more enjoyable.
I have switched it on by mistake once or twice, but you do get a message on the dash saying it’s on, so it’s easy enough just to press the button off again.

I've seriously never turned it on by accident, but then I'd never stick a finger or thumb between the spokes where the switch is actually located (not on the wheel itself as per the op). That's an excellent recipe for breaking it should you unexpectedly hit a rut (an old work colleague of mine once managed to both break & dislocate his thumb doing exactly that when putting a nearside wheel slightly in a ditch). Being as I've never had any problem I can't say I'm at all critical of the switch positioning or the way it functions......(I do realise that some of you stated you only had the problem whilst parking in which case inserting a finger between the spokes is far less of an issue, although my old colleague claimed his injury occurred at very slow speed).

I like the heated steering wheel on my Cayman. I only have 2K miles, but I've used it dozens of times in colder weather this spring. It's easy to activate, so likely that's why some are experiencing problems. I agree with Barryng that it just doesn't get too hot, even in warmer weather.

Other cars we've owned were more problematic. My wife's former 335xi had the heater switch somewhere on the steering column, and was difficult to locate, activate or cancel. Her current Mustang GT heated steering is activated on the home screen by a non-intuitive ½ inch soft button that turns a few pixels red when on. Trying to turn it on or off while driving results in a lot of lane wandering and danger.

I often inadvertently open the ashtray lid when connecting my phone. But, it closes with no more effort than shifting a gear.

Say, you guys don't have self-shifting cars, do you? >:D
