I thank all those who have shared their knowledge, experiences, helpful tips on this forum.
I would like to share the story of my 1st Porsche. I had always wanted a sports car, especially Porsche 911 but two things always stood in the way, being too small for two to three extra passengers and inadequate space for storage until I finally realized this in 2019: just have two cars, one for DD and another for fun! Because I wanted to make sure that the Porsche 911 was the right one, I test drove several new cars: Corvette GS, Mercedes C63S Cabriolet, AMG E53 Cabriolet, SL 550 Roadster and 911 GTS 4 Cabriolet.
The Porsche 911 GTS 4 Cabriolet turned out to be the best. But it somehow felt big and heavy despite meeting all my requirements - fast acceleration, great handling, and gorgeous exterior and interior. It was somewhat perplexing because this 911 was one of the small and lighter ones that I had driven. Then a Carmine Red Boxster GTS caught my attention. I did not consider any of Boxsters because I did not think they were fast enough, and it had a 4-cylinder turbo engine. It had nothing to do with sound, however. Boy, was I wrong; this Boxster GTS performed flawlessly, seemed as good if not better than the 911 in acceleration, handling and braking? Most importantly, it was light and compact; it felt like it was an extension of me. It just fitted me like a glove, perfect, not too big or not too small.
When I showed it to my wife, she asked me why I needed a sports car especially in red? She said that I looked like a guy going through a midlife crisis. She eventually relented as long as it was not in red since I looked so happy. Hence, I settled for the white exterior, but I still got lots of Red - red roof and Bordeaux Red interior. The interior contrasts well with my creamy labradoodle, Noel. The Boxster became Noel’s transportation to the park to play fetch on weekends.
This 718 Boxster GTS is a gorgeous car with exceptional handling, breathtaking acceleration and great sound. I don’t quite understand those who criticize 718 for its sound and turbo lag. I actually love its sound, and I really don't feel any turbo lag! It just takes off, thanks to its low-end torque. Because I personally don’t like to rev the engine high to get the car moving, the turbo flat four suits my style of driving.
Eclipsing past 2k miles transformed this Boxster into a Jekyll and Hyde, ferociously fast yet docile and comfortable when driven gently. I love how the 18-way Adaptive Sport Seat fits and supports my body, very comfortable. Wow, this thing rocks! I had a big grin as I was driving home. Next day, I drove up the Ortega Hwy, enjoying the scenic road winding through mountains, smiling as the Boxster staying flat as it carved through turns with ease. I finally experienced and understood what others meant by feeling the road through the fingertips on the steering wheel.
I bought this Boxster GTS off the lot because that was how I always purchased cars in the past. If I were to do it all over, I would probably custom order one like what I have, with two additional options: heated multifunction wheel and Burmester Sound System. I just at times love to listen to music while driving.
These are the things that I have added or installed since late July, 2019:
