Hello

I was considering adding a decat downpipe to my 718 boxter as I feel the note really lacks a roar even with sports exhaust active.I read somewhere that an ECU tune is highly recommended to avoid any rev spikes,I didn't want to go that road as I am satisfied with the current performance and wouldn't want to compromise on the fuel efficiency during longer runs. Appreciate your 2 cents on it

Thanks!

I added a decat downpipe on my 718 GTS last week and you do get a much more roaring sound, but if you dont tune the car you will lose some torque beetween 2500 and 4500 rpm since most of the backpressure is gone, and you will gain some hp on top.

Which pipe did you go with and did it have any considerable milage drop?

I would echo peaedvard's comments.

I also have stage 2, including the same Cargraphic's (200 cell) downpipe. Before installing the new re-tuned ECU I ran the downpipe on it's own for a couple of days. Performance-wise, I wasn't entirely convinced, as I felt the car was less linear and kind of lost a little of its finesses compared to before. But perhaps things may have improved if I'd given it a little longer, as the (stock) ECU adjusted / recalibrated itself etc. (I didn't get any CEL or error codes). Truth is I couldn't wait to install the re-tuned ECU.

Combined with the ECU tune though...it's a totally different story and I couldn't be happier.

Sounds-wise, the downpipe is an improvement. I would describe it as a deeper tone, with more of a rumble, and obviously more induction / turbo noise. But it's not obnoxiously loud. And that's with PSE by the way.

Thanks for your excellent review it has helped me decide that for now I'll stick to the stock downpipe as I'm not looking at enhancing performance atleast for now.Given it's the finesse of the boxter rev hungry motor combined with the excellent PDK that I enjoy the most and I plan on using the car more often than just joy rides.
