I've been contemplating a 718 purchase for a year. Never have test driven one - a trek from where I live. Been on the forum for a while to learn and decide. So, my wife surprised me for father's day and birthday with a two-day rental of a base 911. Not really enough time to figure out all the options, but, my overall impression was that it was fast and compliant (wife's only smile came when the peddle went to the floor) . However, it was not comfortable - ran it in sport mode most of the time. I don't have back issues, but I did after two days of driving. Here's my question. For those that switched from 911 to 718, is the ride stiffer, the same, or more forgiving? I'll go look for another ride if not better, even sacrificing performance. Thanks all for your input.

without any answer to your question, there is a bunch of options that can effect how the rides.
Non pasm, pasm, spasm and also the seats.

So if the car had pasm/spasm and you used the stiffer setting, yea its hard!

Back Issues

I have the 14 way seats and I have no issues driving my 718CS. I have a horrible back. Whether you buy a 911 0r a 718, you should check out all the different seat options. With my back,I could never drive on long trips with the optional sport seats.

We had a 2017 718 Cayman S for about 16 months, with PASM Sport Suspension, 20" Carrera S Wheels, Sport Chrono, 14 Way Sport Seats, Pretty much a loaded vehicle. MSRP $92,000+. We loved it, until my wife spotted our new 2018 911 Carrera S with somewhat the same options $140,000+ sitting on the showroom floor. My wife was really the one who made the decision to make the change. She has had seven back surgeries . She noticed immediately the ride. Personally I loved both vehicles. They are sports cars, you are going to feel the ride. It is personal preference. But, happy wife, happy life.

How far is "a trek?"

You would learn a lot of you could arrange an appt. with a Porsche dealer & test drive a few 718s with different seat options. I like the 18 way seats.

You do not want to just show up & find they do not have a 18 way & 14 way etc. for you to test drive. Also make sure you test PASM in both comfort & sport setting & if possible steel springs as well. Buying a 718 & finding out... after the delivery... that it is annoyingly uncomfortable would be bad!

PASM / -20mm suspension in mine - and a slipped disc L5 S1 and the car is comfortable in normal mode, I only turn on PASM when i'm gunning it and it's still comfortable. I didn't get the 14 way adjustable, the standard partial electric seats were sufficient..

The seats make a huge difference, sports teix in mine and it's spot on... Go and test drive one.

I'm fairly certain that you cannot turn PASM on & off. If you optioned PASM, it is always on. You can select sport vs. comfort mode. The ride hight is lowered by 10mm (not 20mm, that is with SPASM)

Thats correct and thats why a car with PASM have a smoother ride in normal mode than a non PASM.
People tend to forgett that it is a active system.
SPASM that even lower have a tad harder ride in both modes.
