As far as I know, your assessment of SOL is dead on... I'm an Android user and purposely did not opt for the Porsche Connect feature for that reason. It's completely useless to us non-Apple users... Porsche says something like most Porsche owners are Apple users. I don't buy it, simply because Android makes up something like 80% of smartphone sales Internationally. That being said, I work for a Porsche Dealership, and most of my clients are Apple users ????
The non-official inside story is that Android tries to access more information about the driver and driving habits than Porsche is willing to divulge. Apparently Apple doesn't try to pull nearly as much information about the driver or driving habits. I kinda believe this story, simply because Porsche is a Very Secretive company. If any of their vendors try to access or ask for too much information, Porsche simply stops using that specific vendor. You can't really argue with Porsche though, because it seems as if they really do have a secret recipe for their cars that most brands try to duplicate, but never really can...
