Went by the local dealership with my wife to just "window shop" to maybe resurrect our on-again, off-again pursuit of a Porsche. I have been interested in a Cayman for a long time and have been trying to sell my purchasing agent on the idea. She loves our current car (MB SLK) and there hasn't been anything she's seen that has swayed her in my thinking. After I drove a 991.2 at the PEC I considered that maybe she would like it better so I thought we could stop in and see some cars and maybe ignite some interest. For her, the aesthetics are huge and she finds most Porsches to be clad in bland colors and doesn't find the black interiors that most have to be very appealing. But today we came upon a Cayman S with manual trans, chrono, in Carmine Red w/Boxster wheels. She actually dug it. Even liked the red calipers and the black interior was not a factor. This could be in the running but it has a couple of odd things in the build that I'm not sure are deal breakers but not sure if they are things I will regret not having. It's equipped with the Sports plus seats (good) but only two-way adjustment. Seems comfortable but a car of this price should have very adjustable seats. And then it has heated and ventilated seats but does not have dual zone climate control. I've read others complain of this non-thermostat air system but in a car that is not going to be a daily driver or used on long-distance trips, I'm unsure if this is going to make a difference. Am I being too picky or are these couple of things negligible? You guys who have cars specced with those options (or rather lack of), what do you think?

I've spec'ed my last 3 P-cars with sports plus seats. They are very comfortable.I don't want or need 14 or 18 ways with all the motors. More is not always better. Only drawback is if you are going to frequently share the car with your wife, you won't have memory settings. But the manual fore and aft is quick. If you are overweight and/or have a bad back, the 14/18's may be needed.

I have spec-ed the dual zone climate control twice, but with the Boxster I skipped it. What I don't like about the dual zone is it always wants to blast the fan to get it to temp, even after going thru the menu to change it to the gentlest setting. But it is convenient to have a set temperature, I may end up missing it. These are small cars, and if you are mostly driving alone the dual zone is irrelevant.

Carmine Red and manual transmission, that is a great combination! I wouldn't let the seats and climate control stop you. Unless you want to wait a few months and order exactly what you want (IMHO always the best option).

Mine is a CPO off the lot, so same as you there were a few things (always is) that were not to my spec.

As above^ I didn't want the 14 or 18 way seats but this car had 14w sport.
I wanted 2w sport+.
It was almost a deal breaker for me but after a loooong road test with my wife, we absolutely loved them.
My wife loved that the passenger seat had just as much adjustment as the driver.
If I was doing a factory order I would definitely get them again (except 18w sport+)

I ordered 2 way SSP with heat/vent-no regrets. Also manual HVAC-no issues. While I agree that at this pp one “should” get full power in both areas, it is the price of admission and the important thing is all the other stuff (car and the manual transmission).

My Boxster has the SportPlus seats, which I vastly prefer to the 14-way Sport seats in my Cayman. That said, the seat choices are very personal, so just try them out and see what you think.

As for climate control, my Boxster has regular manual control, while the Cayman has the ACC. I find the ACC completely useless and wouldn't have spec'd it in a custom build. I do slightly prefer how it positions the switches, but in my opinion it's a complete waste of money. But to each his own ;)

The seats are not a huge deal. I'm sure I can dial in a comfortable position with the two-way. The seats themselves are quite comfy so that is a help. Was more unsure about the climate control. But I appreciate the feedback. Going to try and make a push for this car I think.

I've had two 718s. First one with 2-way seats and manually climate control, the current has 14-way and automatic climate control. I was fine with the 2-way seats, but the manually climate control is not the greatest in my opinion. I don't miss it at all.

I have the basic 2 ways seats and no regrets on that one what so ever, even concidering I use the car daily.
I dont have the climate control and it's "okay". I think I would apec it if I ever order again from factory just to be able to set a temperature, not so much for the "dual" aspect of it.
But then I use it daily and I think if it was only my weekend I would just stick without it without any second thought.

Gorgeous. It reminds me never to park my GR Boxster next to carmine red. I swear when it is by itself, guards red doesn't look as orange as the one behind your beauty. It just looks red.

Appreciate everyone’s input. Been a long time coming. I’m happier than a tornado in a trailer park.

And I would recommend getting the rear arches (from back of front wheel to front of rear wheel) protected with PPF as soon as possible (in addition to other areas that you maybe considering). The amount of road rash to these areas is considerable.

That car is gorgeous (although admittedly, I might be a bit prejudiced). ;-)

And just in case somebody checks this thread in the future for responses to your original questions re options, based on my own experience I give a strong vote in favor of opting for the automatic climate control, but skipping the power seats. IME the "auto" sitting on the HVAC works really well, a true set-and-forget that still allows easy manual adjustment when needed. And manual Sports Plus seats to me strike a real sweet spot, with extra grip and comfort but an electric motor only on the one setting likely to be adjusted more than once, the seatback angle. If I was frequently sharing the car with another driver of radically different physical dimensions it'd be a different story, as it'd be a nuisance to manually change the seat settings, but as the sole driver of my car I've never adjusted the seats since I first set them at delivery. I put 1,000+ miles on my car last week and was really pleased with how comfy the seats were.

Most importantly, though, enjoy that beautiful new car! (y)
