What do people use for track day numbers on their 718? I had magnetic numbers on my 987, but the 718 doors aren't magnetic, so those numbers no longer work. I was thinking a small set of numbers might fit in the windows just behind the door windows.

I'm looking for something that is reusable, can be easily applied and removed, and is customizable if possible with driver name.

If it's just for a track day, I think sticking them on the rear fenders (just over the rear tires) would be fine.

Sticker Mule makes lots of custom stuff that you could use.

Personally I just go with vinyls. Shop around, there should be someone that could make you a few sets for a reasonable price.

Magnetic numbers have issues anyway, they need to be taped down often (PCA requires this for their DEs) so it ends up just being sorta ugly.

I've been running static cling vinyl this year and had good luck with it. It is about 3 times thicker than the normal stick on vinyl, and is made to be reused 10-15 times. I'm hoping to get a season or 2 out of it. Just want to make sure the doors are clean, but it goes on and off easy.

Looks good! Where did you order it from?

if you have done the ceramic coating to your car they most likely won't stick. neither will painter's tape (in any color made by any company). most of the DE events i participate in supply you with numbers to go on the front windshield and/or sides of the cars, so i put mine on the rear 1/4 windows. i have used window markers before for just a weekend.

Has anyone confirmed what @nineball says about ceramic coatings may not allow static vinyl numbers to stick? I've got my first DE coming up and need to get numbers.

Thinking about getting stencils and some white shoe polish. I think I can give it a test today and see how it goes on the car. Otherwise, I'll probably follow @Gold lead and get numbers that will fit in the quarter window.

I did make stencils (and I may have posted my shoe polish test) but I ended up with one-time use vinyl numbers. They did stick well on the ceramic coating and at the event someone told me those numbers will be PITA to remove and the sticky stuff under them even worse. In fact, with the ceramic coating on the car, the numbers were a little tricky to get off, but the underlying adhesive washed off very easily. So I'm going to do the same 8" numbers in a month at my second DE.

Bumping this up as I'm planning ahead for next season... I have a white Boxster and have been using painter's tape the past two years but at the last DE - the first after ceramic coating it - the tape gave me a ton of trouble staying on, so I'm looking for alternatives. This is what the tape looked like right after applying it. It flew off on the track, no surprise. I had to apply a lot of pressure on the tape for a long time for the adhesive to really stick. A real PITA I'd rather not deal with.

Will static cling vinyl work on ceramic coated doors? The rear quarter of the Boxster is a little less roomy than the Cayman so putting magnetic numbers back there doesn't seem like it would work unless they were small...

Fought the same relentless losing battle with our new BGTS at COTA in July. The numbers in the sun often started peeling off within 2-3 minutes…just sitting there. Do a session and half would disappear….total PITA.

Hot temperatures and sun must be the culprit, as I had no peeling issues under overcast skies at 50 degrees in November.

I’ve been told Yellow 3M painters tape works quite well in high heat….got some, but haven’t yet had an opportunity to try.

Regardless, I plan to go with plastic as soon as I nail down a permanent PCA number. Thus, will need to learn the best method to attach for reuse.

Vinyls from trackdecals.com. So far have lasted 29 track days over two years, you can design them any way you want (color, font, size, details like flags, your name, etc.) . My car is ceramic coated and they stick no problem. Their customer service is excellent. I usually wipe the doors with a little detailing spray on a clean microfiber before applying them. You can also get smaller ones for the rear quarter windows if you don't want to put anything on the metal surfaces of your car.
