So what do people think of the tracker system, particularly UK members. I have it now at a cost of £235 a year to vodaphone and having to carry that tracking fob with me everywhere. My insurance renewal quotes vary but are all higher without it but not £235 lower with it. Do I go for, say, £455 without or £335 plus the £235 with it. The car is a late 2016 low mileage Carrera S Cab worth maybe £80K. I'm not quite sure that if it was nicked, I'd actually want it back after abuse by thieving scroats! I live in a rural Lincolnshire village with no crime, garage it every night and only do about 5000 miles a year, never leaving it anywhere dodgy.

I know, wrong forum but I like this one and it's contributors after being a long time 987, 981 and 718 owner until last year and likely will be again one day.

I get what you mean about the tracker & have sometimes wondered the same thing. I still pay & as I've commented previously, carry my modified fob on a track pass lanyard around my neck. I'll probably still continue to do so, but I'd also welcome the opinion of others on the subject. As for you posting on here. You have been a member of this forum for a very long time & are also a former 718 owner. Just because you've now changed to a 911 cabriolet I see no reason why you shouldn't continue to post. Obviously it will slightly limit how much others on the forum might be able to help you on certain issues, but why would anyone wish to lose your experience of owning a 718? On top of that some issues can on occasion affect more than one vehicle type. You just carry on mate. ;)

Cheers Chilli. I could well be back proper if they release that rumoured 718 Boxster Touring 6-cylinder but let's not open that debate up. I reckon I'm going to stick with the tracker, which is quite illogical really, except I quite like the kudos of needing a tracker. Wow, I sound like a Rennlister now.

I have the PVTS on my Cayman.

Wouldn't be without it and it is a small price to pay for an extra piece of mind.
Yes Malcolm, I remember a discussion last year on this forum when I first got the car. As per above I think I'll stick with it, particularly now I've got that lovely little leather sachet you recommended to put the fob in. Still think if some scumbag nicks it and drives around (or anything else in it) not sure I want it recovering. Seems to me more about the insurance company's benefit than mine. But hey ho, I quite like having it really. But that small price is a rip off!

@Peter - good point about insurance cost being x higher than the cost of the PVTS. As long as x doesn't exceed the price Voda charges. I'm not a big fan of the system but have come to live with having the fob with me. Is there a real alternative at a similar price or better service? I can't be asked to spend time on it at the moment. Horses for courses.

On the posting front. I'd rather have people post sensible real world car questions regardless of the car they drive. Yeah, it's a 718 forum. I was under the impression that that stood for the combined age of the UK group who meet regularly. Come along and add a couple of decades to the number
