After a couple years of learning here and much effort in gaining spousal consent, I've finally gotten to the point of pulling the trigger on an order. This will be my first Porsche, and likely last (I keep cars long and I'm old), so settling for a car on the lot is not an option. I need to make sure I've captured the buying process correctly from multiple threads on this forum. As I understand I should: (1) submit a build code to multiple dealers, (2) ask if they have an allocation, (3) determine the build date of that allocation, and (4) negotiate the best deal I can. I am novice to the Porsche buying experience and would appreciate any additional advise. I realize I'm in the market at the worst possible time (e.g., new year, MY 18s on the lot, MY 19s incoming, first time buyer, etc.), but I need to strike while the coals are hot.

Bigger dealerships will have more allocations. Don’t be afraid to check dealers inventories, they might have what you are looking for. Know what you want and stick to it. New orders seem to average around 6% off MSRP and you can usually get more off a car in inventory. Good luck with the process and be patient, which is much easier said than done.

That's pretty much it. I'd just send out your build spec with something like "This is the car I want, when could you get it to me and how much would it cost?" Let them know you're talking to multiple dealerships. Choose the deal that's right for you.

I agree with what OldJedi and JakiChan wrote. When I was searching for an allocation, I sent the code information to 25+ dealers within about 500 miles. I got a response from all of them including several "good deal" quotes. I then took the best quotes to my local dealer and asked the Sales Manager to give me a quote.

He was within one percent of the best offer I had received from the others and I would not have to pay for airfare/hotel. Their service on my 2014 Cayman had been excellent and so we were really happy to make this deal. He then swapped a Boxster allocation with another dealer with a Cayman allocation while my spouse and I waited and I was locked in to the build within a week or so.

By the way, I too am "old" and plan to keep this car a long time. So when it came to options we did not miss much!
