Back issues and a little arthritis in my hand make it much more than just a trivial exercise to plug my iPhone into the cell compartment or remove it every time I enter or leave the car. Therefore, I want to determine if I can permanently plug an old iPhone 7 in the cell phone compartment as it is only $10 per month to activate on my AT&T Family plan. However, I want to have my current iPhone XS connected via Bluetooth so I can continue to receive/make calls through my twenty year old number.

As previous generation iPhones are ubiquitous collecting dust in drawers, I have to assume someone has already tried using an older iPhone as a permanent iPhone in the car. I would like to learn from anyone elses solution to this problem. BTW, I tried making my iPhone XS a hot spot and connecting my iPhone 7 via wifi to it but it wont play Pandora via this connection.

Barryng, I'm just a bit too chunky to be twisting all the time so I did buy a scratched up iPhone 7 on eBay and have it semi-permanently in my car. As it is under my same iCloud and AppleID, text messages automatically go to everything including Carman the Cayman's iPhone. When I get in, I do have to turn Carman's phone on (because it will kill it if you don't turn it off), log in with my PIN so I can make sure my Dual XGPS160 is paired (and it may require logging in to authorize charging? Don't know.), and then I go to my main iPhone and go under Settings to Phone and then forward my main number to Carman's. Generally pull up Google Maps on the PCM and off I go. Once a month I do pull it out of the car and back it up from my home network and check for updates and apply them.
