Took delivery of my "new to me" 2018 Cayman on November 15th so I've just passed the two week mark. My wife and I took a small road trip of about an hour each way to meet my folks for a late Thanksgiving dinner Saturday night and our round trip mpg in the Cayman was 31.2! Moreover it was a gorgeous afternoon and evening for a drive on primarily 4 lane roads and we were able to average 55mph which is quick enough to know you are moving but not so fast you can't enjoy the drive and scenery.
I am really pleased with how efficient this car is considering it's performance. 0-60 in less than 4.5 seconds and also can get over 30mpg while being gorgeous to look at, fun to drive and really comfortable (seriously, I find the seats and driving position to be more comfortable for me than the Macan it replaced). What a time to be an automobile enthusiast when cars like these are readily available! Yes, I know they aren't cheap to purchase or service properly but the upside of ownership is tremendous for someone like me who just loves to drive.
Speaking of the Thanksgiving holidays, I was able to give two "exhibition" drives to friends who are real car nuts that I usually only see on holidays and both were pretty blown away by the Cayman. Friend 1 had been thinking of a 911 in a few years but after having driven the 718 he "gets" why the mid-engine cars are so good. He was already a Porsche fan and I wish him well whatever he decides but I could tell his drive had totally changed his way of thinking. Friend 2 has always been a Boxster fan but had no experience with the 718 cars. He went from "someday I'll get serious about looking" to "I will start looking for a 718 Boxster next week" and jokingly called me many names for making him fall in love and potentially open his wallet. I had a blast taking the car out with both of them and was glad to share some Porsche love.
Oh and neither had a problem with the way the car sounded. To their ears (and to mine) it sounds like a proper sports car; aggressive and exciting. What more can I say? I love my car and hopefully will have the chance to share it with a lot of other folks before it's all said and done.
