Update on my car (white base model Cayman with PDK. No other options):

I stopped in at my NJ dealer and he provided me with this updated info (the car was ordered Aug 8):

Vehicle completion -09/18/2017 (actual date)
Entry port Emden -09/21/2017 (actual date)
Exit port Emden -10/13/2017 (expected date)
Entry port Jacksonville - 11/03/2017 (expected date)
Exit port Jacksonville (trucked to Atlanta) - 11/03/2017 (expected date)

I am currently scheduled to do the Porsche Experience around 1 December but the car was completed at the factory 4 days early so that may move things up a bit.
The expected dates above are all based on the original completion date of 9/22/2017.

I’m really looking forward to this but also, trying not to get too anxious. I realize that there’s some post-hurricane shipping issues in Florida right now that might affect all this.
Lots of people suffering down there right now so if my fancy car is delayed a bit, I can hardly complain. It is what it is.

Anyway, I’m keeping plenty busy. Today I went to a car show and sat in a 1-family owned 911 (2.7 Targa) that had a factory optional dictation machine in it (!?!?). The owner has all the paperwork proving it’s original (a “businessman's” option, apparently). A strange, rare option for sure.
Otherwise, I installed spare engine in vintage race car (MG Midget) this weekend.Tomorrow I do timing, check toe, mount new tires/wheels and load MG into trailer. Wednesday I watch grandkids. We’re heading to Watkins Glen on Thursday for a vintage race.

You will absolutely love the 718.....best Porsche I test drove. PDK is amazing too shifts flawlessly. I waited 5 months for my car so I know the wait is tough but it will be well worth the wait! Word of advice don't let the dealership sell you any extras.
Wow... 5 months! Even longer than I will wait.

This has been a weird purchasing experience compared to other new cars I've bought. Not just the long wait but also the sale guys.

Generally, the sales people I've dealt with when buying new cars in the past have been very helpful and friendly. The local Corvette sale person I met with this Summer was super nice and super knowledgeable. On the other hand, two of the Porsche sale people I met when looking for this car were obnoxious. And one other Porsche sales guy seemed like he would have trouble selling appliances in Sears. Another guy seemed too busy to deal with me.

But eventually, I ran into a friend who recommended my current sales person and I'm quite happy. But it took some real effort on my part.

I love this car but many of the sales people acted as if the Cayman is the red-headed stepchild of Porsche.

Thanks for the tip on them "pushing" extras.

I totally agree about the Porsche buying experience. The dealerships and sales people we dealt with were both condescending and contemptive but they make up for it by being incompetent. My buying experience with Porsche is the worst I ever encountered. What burns me about this country is that not only do we have a hard time building a good car but we can't even manage to provide the service associated with a good car. I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY and I can take as good as I give but these sales people are mostly idiots on wheels.
At one dealership my wife and I asked to test drive a 2017 base 911 and the salesperson asked if we would like to take the car out alone, we said yes, he then returns 5 minutes later and said we could test drive the 911 but not alone and that he would have to take us out separately. What I suspect is that I was wearing jeans and sneakers as usual, and I wasn't wearing a fancy watch so he probably felt we couldn't afford the car. Little did that nit wit know we could pay cash for any car he had........jerks!

It is interesting hearing about these bad experiences.

Everyone at my local Porsche dealership always treats me like I am their best client whenever I am there. (I assume they do this for all clients).

Generally I think it's just a hit or miss. They are either awful or great. My first encounter with the Porsche brand was some 4 years ago when I was looking for a Macan. The SA was what is commonly known as a "complete moron". Don't want to get into the details, just ruins my mood still. Anyway, this experience took me over a year to get over with until I was ready to set a foot into another Porsche dealership. Night and day experience that time. Couldn't be happier with service and everything else. On a side note I just signed up for a PCA driving event that starts at the aforementioned less then stellar dealership. Can't wait to show them my 2nd Porsche purchase that they missed out on as well. Yes I can hold a grudge for a while...>:D

Make sure that they know they missed out, and why--they deserve it!:D

(They seem to be trying to live up to: What's the difference between a porcupine and a Porsche? --The Porsche has the prick on the inside.)
