i have the 3.0 Carlin and it works very well. Audio is great and no lag. Very occasionally on long trips, it gets hot and even has to be reset (unplugged and plugged in). It's rare, but it happens. still 100% worth it and way better than hardwired. I also added a wireless charging pad in the armrest and it plugs into carlin. That's probably why it gets hot. now thinking out loud.

I tried an "Ottocast" dongle and was unimpressed. I feel that this entire category is half baked. Porsche desperately needs to do a PCM update. There is no excuse for it to not connect when wired 100% of the time. A delay in connection is tolerable IF you know that it will for sure connect in 30-40 seconds. But every once in a while I connect and wait for it, and it might connect with an unplug replug.

Maybe my lightning port was dirty? Got a new iPhone and we'll see if that does anything.

As mentioned previously when mine (Ottocast) fails, the wired connection also fails. It seems to be the PCM at fault

As commented in this and in multiple other threads, the wireless carplay adapters work very well with minimum issues. Nevertheless, every so often, it glitches and does not quickly and reliably connect to the phone. This does not happen often but the quick and easy fix is to simply hold the volume knob in for at least ten seconds. The Nav system will then reboot and all will be well. I have had my adapter (Carplay2air) for two years or so and am very pleased with how well and mostly reliably it works.

Adding a charging pad has been a serious consideration since I installed a Carlinkit 4.0 for wireless carplay. The Carlinkit takes 20 to 30 seconds to begin working, but works as intended with no issues. The device tucks neatly into the recessed area at the back of the Smartphone Compartment (see picture), which is great, but heat buildup is a concern.

Drives since installation have been short (≤ 20 minutes), so I have yet to determine whether that particular placement will trap enough heat to cause the device to shut down. Based on your experience, adding a charge pad to the Carlinkit device can only increase heat buildup. In addition, I wonder how installing a charge pad in the Smartphone Compartment will impact its signal boost capability.

@castlesteve, approximately how much time elapses before your Carlinkit shuts down? Thanks!

LOL, that is one of many "quick and easy" fixes that works for some. I am not one of those, maybe because I don't have Nav. I have tried every conceivable solution short of live sacrifice and the only reliable fix iI have found is waiting until the PCM's finished having its fit, which may take minutes or days.

I've had the Carlinkit3 in my wife's Macan now for about a year. It works very well when it works but we've had connectivity issues in the past. It gives us the most fits when we're both in the car. It defaults to the last phone it was connected to but when we're in the car together we always let it connect to mine. But when it brings both phones up on the screen and we select my phone it jumps to her phone. We play this game for about three or four connection attempts and it will finally succumb and connect to my phone. Once in a while though it won't give in and it won't connect to either phone. And then other times it'll connect to my phone and while driving it will suddenly disconnect from my phone and connect to hers. If my wife remembers to she will access the Carlinkit3 in the settings and turn off CarPlay so it'll give us less fits.

I'm considering getting the Carlinkit4 to see if it will be an improvement. Other than the occasional hiccup it is a nice little upgrade but as others have said, there is zero reason why Porsche doesn't have wireless CarPlay in all of its models and trim levels.

Do you notice any sound quality difference playing music / podcasts through this wireless CarPlay setup vs. being plugged directly via USB?
Playing music/podcasts through this wireless CarPlay setup vs. being plugged directly via USB is no sound quality difference, and much better than playing music via phone's bluetooth.

How's your's working now? Thinking of ordering for my 2022 GTS. The website only lists Porsche 718 MY 2017-2021 as compatible, but I don't think there is any difference between 2021 and 2022?

Also, even my wired CarPlay seems to have hiccups at times. Drove yesterday and it started up fine, but after I disconnected the phone to activate GasBuddy and plugged back in, I couldn't get CarPlay to reconnect.
I saw someone replying below that the compatible list of the website has been updated, support Porsche 718 2017-2022. The 4.0 version is good for 2022 model year.

Thanks, I took delivery of the Carlinkit 4 earlier this week. Had a few strange hiccups going through the initial connection procedure (note screenshot that still shows "not connected" to the device (Porsche - A569)). But it appears to be working for the 2-3 times I've driven since.

I've also been impressed with the customer service. The product is coming out of China and I was a bit skeptical relative to after sale service, but they responded quickly to my questions with an e-mail and follow up.

Hi Ed, just to advise I had similar issues and "sometimes" there are too many other devices linked to your iphone - even not connected - AND both phone and Dongle get confused.
The dongle itself should be solid.
This whole issue solved by removing device set - if not ever using again - or reluctantly updating your 7 as also think the newer versions do not suffer this much with the same issue.
I had similar with 2 different bluetooth speakers and it would never work unless I ended up deleting/removing one.
Otherwise I still maintain, the Carlink is the best for our P cars

Thanks, @subculture , for the helpful suggestions. BTW, my i-Phone isn't a "7" model, that was just the name assigned to it. I have an XS model that will likely turn into a 14 when my wife and daughters all lobby for the upgrade as we approach the holidays.

Thank you for your recommend! I've got the Carlinkit Wireless CarPlay Adapter which was on sale. And I have been using it for a while. I must say it works great! As soon as I start the car, Carplay starts and works fine. Very satisfied! I want to share the joy with you. I'll post details about it in my post later. :D 🤝

Indeed the carlinkitlife website's after-service is very good. If we encounter problems in use, they will give corresponding solutions and reply very quickly (of course, the premise is that you are their customers). Overall, this adapter is worthy and the performance is still OK. It works well with my car, no issues so far.

My only gripe is it always commandeers my phone when I'm detailing the car in the garage. It always snags my phone 10-15 seconds after I open a door, even when I'm already bluetoothed to our golf cart's Bose SLIII speaker. I've tried everything, except deleting the source (our BGTS) from my phone. Nothing prevents this and it totally aggrivates the stink out of me. Otherwise, it has always worked perfectly.

I've had the same issue. If I'm working around my wife's Macan as my 718 isn't here yet and I go into the Bluetooth settings, Macan, and turn off the CarPlay button. It won't connect to the car when I do that. I just have to remember to turn it back on when I get in the Macan.
