Upgrade Wireless CarPlay for My 718

I was a little bit annoyed that I had to have my phone plugged in to get my CarPlay to work in my car. I got a refer from my friend with a smart dongle. I purchased carlinkit 4.0 that converts the CarPlay connection into wireless CarPlay and Android Auto.
Ever since getting this I’ve had absolutely few problems, sound quality is good and haven't seen any audio/video lag. It has truly improved my entire car audio experience. Works great, and is a decent price for what it brings, less than $85.
Once you set up the dongle, get into your car and turn on the car, and without connecting your phone to the car by cable, you’ll have CarPlay pop up. Plug and play, takes about 30 seconds to boot up and is actually pretty quick. Exactly like wired carplay! I can't believe how easy it was to set up!
I am so excited and would like to sharing this. I LOVE HAVING WIRELESS CARPLAY! I will keep updating here!

Based on the responses, I feel sorry for Amazon :)

I deeply experience this. Amazon will only give you a generic manual. However, the manual is not a panacea, and it may not be mentioned in many cases. For the situation I encountered, there is no corresponding content in the manual. I have sought their help many times for this, but have not received a response. In the end, I had no choice but to refund, which was really annoying. The experience was terrible!
Is it realistic to expect Amazon to be the primary means of support for a third party product? Can you imagine if they tried to do this for every product? Pretty solid that they’re willing to offer refunds. Go to the manufacturer for support, not the retailer.

Why would you ask Amazon for help & not teh manufacturer?
Carlinkit only provides technical service support for customers who purchase products directly on their website. If you place an order on Amazon, you can only ask Amazon for help. So that's why I finally decided to purchase on the website to get guaranteed service.

Ditto....although, I have yet to experience any issues after 1.5 months of use.
I also have the carlinkit 4.0, but I don’t think I’d call it amazing. It works most of the time.
One drawback is that wireless CarPlay will prevent your phone from being a hotspot. I didn’t know this until my kids iPad wouldn’t connect and it took a series of steps to figure out why. But this isn’t the adapters fault. Overall, this adapter is worthy.
There are so many ways to get wireless carplay or wireless Android auto. But I think choosing the carlinkit 3.0 or 4.0 is the best and cheapest way. lol.

Mine shows this “Bluetooth pairing screen” before connecting to CarPlay every time I start the car. Anyone else’s do this & is there any way to skip it?
After initial setup, definitely connects to the iPhone whenever I get into the car and put on the ignition. I wanted my car to have wireless CarPlay so that the phone is independent of the cable. I think if you want that functionality, you should definitely try this.
The lag is very small, not impacting the functionality. Voice call, steering buttons, all work as well.
I have wireless CarPlay in my other vehicles and I love it and am hooked on it because it's convenient not to have to take my phone out of my pocket every time I get in and out of my car.

I have ordered one of the wireless kits for my iPhone. I’m curious though, does it connect even if the phone is locked? When I plug my phone into the cable in the armrest it won’t bring up Apple CarPlay unless I unlock the phone, which is somewhat awkward to do every time.

I do not have to unlock the phone.
‘using carlink 3 and iPhone XR, waze and amz music.
what I sometimes have an issue with is in fact amz music Which occasionally causes a delay but otherwise, this bit of kit does exa what I want it to do.
ps btw if nobody picked this up. Carlink4 seems to be the one to go to for android, v3 perfect for iPhone and from what I can see, ver 4 gives no benefit for iPhone over v3 Except if you want to pay extra for no other benefits.

That’s good to know. I ordered the v3 for my iPhone, apparently it’s coming from China directly so it might take awhile, but I’m crossing my fingers for a seamless experience.

Mine arrived in less than a week several days ahead of the estimated delivery date. Has continued to work well after a few minor challenges with the initial setup.

It works well with my car so far. I am happy with my purchase. Highly recommended!
Glad it works for you. What year is your 718?
I've heard that connection time can vary: sometimes quick, other times slow.

I have a 2022 GTS. Mine (Carlinkit 4.0) automatically detects the iPhone in my pocket and takes a total of 10-20 seconds before everything is activated. It seems to occasionally take longer to load all of my stations from Pandora, but that seems to be a glitch with Pandora/CarPlay that also occurs in my BMW with wireless CarPlay. Maps start working almost immediately.

I have a 2017 and I can’t tell what causes it to connect quickly or slowly. It’s weird. Worst case I had was only around 30 seconds or so to connect. Not too bad. Typically it’s within 5 seconds.

I ordered the Carlinkit 4.0 from this site: Carlinkit Wireless Carplay Adapter after getting the quick response below confirming it was compatible with a 2022MY 718. They also offered a 15% discount. I have had no issues since the initial installation and it automatically read my new i-Phone 14 that I just got a couple of weeks ago. Also, when I ordered, the expected delivery time was 2 weeks, but I got the unit within 4-5 days. Not sure why one would order this through Amazon, unless the price was significantly less than the 15% discount the offered through the "official" website.

I so glad you had a wonderful experience with Carlinkkit and your new iPhone 14 that you got a couple weeks ago. If you would however re-read my post, you will note I provided a reason not to use Amazon. If my case, the manufacturer would not provide any support. Item has been returned to Amazon for refund. As always, thanks for your comments. Enjoy your 718 and your new iPhone 14.
