Upgrade Wireless CarPlay for My 718

I was a little bit annoyed that I had to have my phone plugged in to get my CarPlay to work in my car. I got a refer from my friend with a smart dongle. I purchased carlinkit 4.0 that converts the CarPlay connection into wireless CarPlay and Android Auto.
Ever since getting this I’ve had absolutely few problems, sound quality is good and haven't seen any audio/video lag. It has truly improved my entire car audio experience. Works great, and is a decent price for what it brings, less than $85.
Once you set up the dongle, get into your car and turn on the car, and without connecting your phone to the car by cable, you’ll have CarPlay pop up. Plug and play, takes about 30 seconds to boot up and is actually pretty quick. Exactly like wired carplay! I can't believe how easy it was to set up!
I am so excited and would like to sharing this. I LOVE HAVING WIRELESS CARPLAY! I will keep updating here!

I so glad you had a wonderful experience with Carlinkkit and your new iPhone 14 that you got a couple weeks ago. If you would however re-read my post, you will note I provided a reason not to use Amazon. If my case, the manufacturer would not provide any support. Item has been returned to Amazon for refund. As always, thanks for your comments. Enjoy your 718 and your new iPhone 14.
Understood and sorry for the confusion by "replying" to your previous post. I wasn't contradicting your recommendation, rather providing an additional reason not to use Amazon, along with links.

However, I'm now curious as to why the first link in you post doesn't work, and the second link in your post goes to a different "official" site than the link I posted? Wonder if perhaps I bought from a third party site myself, unless Carlink has multiple "official" websites.
I have a 2022 GTS. Mine (Carlinkit 4.0) automatically detects the iPhone in my pocket and takes a total of 10-20 seconds before everything is activated. It seems to occasionally take longer to load all of my stations from Pandora, but that seems to be a glitch with Pandora/CarPlay that also occurs in my BMW with wireless CarPlay. Maps start working almost immediately.
Thanks. It looks good. I've always liked carplay. Wireless carplay is undoubtedly convenient. I think I'll try this product.

As with plenty of other users of this same device on this forum
I'm trying a new wireless CarPlay device later today. The CarLinkit IV I bought a few weeks ago would connect but the screen was frozen. I had to delete it. I'll give it a review once I have it installed and paired.

Our CarLinkit IV was an easy install, paired quickly, and has been effectively issue free.

I was quite surprised that it gave me issues. Could have been a bad unit though. I deleted it and paired it several times but I would have the same issue each time. I would start the car, the device and my phone would pair, the map would come up on the screen, but none of the functions would work. If I tried to select a different app from the icons on the left none of them would recognize my finger touch on the screen.

Yes, sounds like it was defective. Hope your new one works as advertised.

So my new device came in. I sent back my CarlinKit 4 after having connectivity issues. I purchased the AutoSky Wireless USB Adapter off of Amazon. So far based on my driveway test it is hands down easier and faster than the CarlinKit 3 in my wife's Macan and it worked whereas my CarlinKit 4 did not.

It installed very easily. There is no cable if you have a USB Type A connection which is what we have in the 718 and it plugs in directly to the port. There is also a USB Type to USB Type A extension if you don't want it to be elevated inside the center console. There is also a USB Type A to USB C extension if you want to use it for something other than the 718. When I turned on power to the car it popped up immediately in the section on my phone for new Bluetooth connections. I allowed my phone to pair with the device on my phone screen and on the PCM. I set it on the PCM as a CarPlay device and asked it not to ask me again. Suggested in the well written instructions I scanned the QR code and updated the Firmware, unplugged the device and plugged it back in, and it paired again immediately. I shut the car off and turned it back on and it was connected within 5 seconds. I did this several times and each time it was immediate. The graphics were clear, no fuzziness, no delays in switching between screens, and it recognized my finger touch on the PCM without hesitation. The instructions suggest deleting your Bluetooth connection between your phone and the car and only having the phone to the dongle connection. I may play around with this and see if it causes issues. The only drawback is that it only works with iPhone 6 or newer phones. Android users won't be able to use this dongle.

For the driveway test it was very successful. I won't de driving the car again until later this week but I'll report back if there are any issues. It appears while the device is made in China, the company I ordered it from is based in Houston, TX.

I got this OTTOCAST from amazon:

Works great for my use case. Which is mostly Waze navigation. My music is on a flash drive in the glove compartment so I have no opinion on that. Carplay so far connects and works reliably within 15 seconds or less.
I just got the exact same one @trusted. It was 100% plug and play in my 2017 Cayman S.
I set it up as I left for a quick errand.
I had the same experience with speed of connect upon return to car.. it just picked up the music where I left it etc. etc.
Big thumbs up from me. =)
