Upgrading the Interior on a Base Model

918 Views 14 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Photocycler
Now that I’m getting my 2018 base sorted, I want to add a few things to make it mine and a little more sporty.

I have a very bare plan base mode and am considering a few things of course all OEM parts.
  1. Carbon Dash Kit and PDK Shift knob Dash Kit & Shift Knob - Carbon Fiber
  2. Console Trim in Gloss Carbon Fiber - Console Trim in Gloss Carbon Fiber (991/981/718)
  3. Exclusive floor mats - would get something with maybe yellow or red stitching - Exclusive Floormat Set - 991/981/718
  4. Console lid with Porsche - Console Lid with Crest (991.2 & 718)
Considering maybe the GT steering wheel as well. Would like colored seat belts but it’s just too much to pay. Would love to hear other suggestions and of course any feedback from those who bought the carbon fiber trim.

I could be the only one on this planet that doesn't feel the
Carbon fibre vibe..

If I was going to add a touch, I think I would add the Pascha design,
whether that be a trunk liner or a fusebox covering.

You are not alone. I'm not a fan of the carbon fibre look either. Just looks like a gimmick when installed on a street car to me. I'd be tempted to change my dash trim to the brushed aluminum perhaps, but not carbon.

Instead of the Exclusive mats, you might consider CocoMats to get some color. Mine are black with red spots. Of course, that's only if you can tolerate adding a couple of pounds of extra weight. The CocoMats are heavy!

But that's just me. Other people should do whatever they like for their own cars.

As an alternative viewpoint I think the factory CF looks great in these cars. I went from the “shiny” aluminum to the CF and couldn’t be happier. Found a good deal in the marketplace. You see the pretty carbon every time you drive the car. The other change I made was to add some additional carbon fiber and houndstooth by replacing the seats, but that wasn’t particularly cheap. But since the seats have since been discontinued I think they will hold their value. Best of luck with your updates and enjoy,

@cbracerx your car look a great! Those seats look amazing too.

I also tend to not love carbon fiber but do think that the Porsche version looks pretty good. I considered maybe a painted color but that may be too much.

would love to do seat inlays but I think with my ventilated seats it will be even more difficult to find.

I completely agree, personally I don't understand the carbon fibre fetish. Also, I wish Porsche still offered some of their more whacky materials like the tartans or Pascha. May look at getting the seat centres retrimmed at some point..

Carbon fibre has structural function in reading cars.
As a trim in road cars, it just looks like a cheap kit car add-on.

Painted interior trim can look good, such as the painted center console in the 986/997. But when it moves to the dash and air vents it’s too much for me. But Porsche sells plenty of GT4s with lots of painted parts inside so plenty of folks like that kind of spice.

Interior CF, like it or hate it, when high quality is understated compared to painted trim IMO. Poor quality stick on CF is an abomination and should never be seen in a proper motor car. For me with factory carbon seats the factory carbon trim works great. The Non-Leather dash is pretty meh, so something to dress it up really helps.

Ventilated seats pose a bit of a challenge to update for some more flair in the cockpit. Steering wheel update with shift knob may be well worth it. I did the GT4 shifter and FF knob but with the PDK your selection of the carbon knob and carbon factory trim seems a good choice. Enjoy your upgrades and don’t let the haters change your own opinion :)

I’m also in the “not a fan of carbon fiber trim“ club, but I‘d also take it over the painted trim all day long. I have the standard black S interior. I’m happy with it, and the standard silver trim looks just fine to me, especially with the nice contrast it provides to the all black interior. Adding black, or mostly black trim (CF) would detract from the interior‘s appearance, IMHO.

If I ever feel the need to update it, I’d likely replace the trim with the leather option, and I would choose the Bordeaux leather. It should work well with my GT Silver exterior. I have silver grey belts, and I’d probably replace them with Bordeaux as well to complete the look. If Porsche provided the option to choose any color leather trim, I might have gone that route from the start.

But I’m happy with what I have. Sometimes I think we just look for excuses to spend money. :) Nothing wrong with that if you’ve got it, and the change makes you happy.
I am not a fan of the painted trim as it looks pretty garish in most circumstances. The one exception that I have seen in person is on an Agate Grey car. The grey trim on the two tone Black/Bordeaux interior worked really well. Silver might also work.

I'm not a fan of carbon fibre at all, I would go silver seatbelts instead.

The trimmed floor mats and console lid with crest sound good though.
Is anyone running these RS door pocket deletes or seen them in person.
