Hi All - I ordered a 2019 base Cayman the first week of May and was told by the dealer they would get me a July production slot. I was finally able to get a straight answer from them last week and my car is currently slotted for a completion date the last week of September. I assume this means the car will not arrive to the dealer (located in NY) until late October or early November. The dealer said they are working with Porsche to try and move up the production date but there's been a huge demand for mid-engine cars in North America and it's been very difficult for any dealer in North America to get decent allocations.

Two questions; Anyone else in the group order a Cayman early/mid May that has received a better production slot? And, does this sound legit or am I getting pushed to the back of the line because this is the first car I've ordered from this dealer and its a base model?

Part of me wants to just cancel the order and see if I can get a great deal on an '18 or wait until '19s start hitting dealer lots (which I assume will be before November)

Thank you!

I ordered a Base Cayman mid May. It was for a lock date of September 21st and production September 28th,exit production/complete October 5th, at Port of Emden October 12th, leave Emden November 2nd and delivered to dealer November 30th. The lock date has been accelerated to September 3rd and I gave my SA the final configuration Friday. He noted that it is a fairly good potential that Porsche will move the lock date up to an even earlier date than September 3rd. It is more than likely that it will now deliver mid November or perhaps even a bit earlier. I will get a new report with all dates once the configuration is officially locked. Your dealer should have given you the entire set of dates in a standard format. I had this when I ordered my 2016 and I got a copy of this when I ordered in May. Your dealer should be keeping you posted whenever these dates change without your having to ask.

...what I've read from other members, it doesn't seem atypical from a production standpoint but you do seem to describe atypical communication from your dealer. The dates should be well documented by the dealer and presented to you. You used the word "assume", as if your SA hasn't provided any actual dates for your build process. Cancelling/waiting to get a deal on an '18 (or '19 off the lot), obviously your call. But depending how you specced your car, will you be completely satisfied? At this point the wait will be over soon enough anyway.?

I ordered a 2019 Cayman on May 2, 2018. I have not received an allocation and still on demand in the system.

However, got an email from my SA that my car arrived last Wednesday. The car was prepped on Thursday for pickup this past Thursday evening.

When I showed up, turned out it was a different car, a 2018 with very similar equipments and some extras, but had PDK instead of the manual transmission that I definitely wanted. The color was different too, though I did not mind Graphite Blue to the Agate Grey that I ordered.

So still in the waiting stage in demand mode with no allocation to date. Looks like my car won't be here earlier than late November.

Ordered mine at the end of April, and it went into body shop on 8/1. It is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of September.
Cayman or Boxster?
Cayman S. When ordered, it was initially shown as an October allocation; however, during mid-July, the SA emailed for the new lock date and build schedule.

Nice! Sounds like both of our cars got stuck halfway on the assembly line in August. I believe factory vacation is over next week or the week after. Hope they get to it asap then...

I was able to get an allocation for a a 2019 Cayman S ten days ago. I am trading my 2016 base Cayman. I want something with more mid-range torque. The dealer expects delivery around Thanksgiving.

I missed a 2018 build by 1 day (contacted Germany but they wouldn't budge) so placed my order in APR 2018 for a 2019 model with a JUL fix date. Got a VIN earlier this month and an actual V331 (entry port Emden) of late JUL. ETA to port of San Diego is late SEP.

Just checked with my SA, mine left the Port of Emden on 9/10. It should be arriving in San Diego on 10/8. :)

We entered the order with the SA in early to mid July and was told that I could expect delivery in Sept but after the order was entered they changed to the Nov delivery. Kinda Pi$$ed me off but I had no leverage so it is what it is. Was told that Germany shuts down in August so no start until Sept.

What's the story here?

Thx. I have my CS order in with them as well. Hoping for delivery late Nov.
In a different thread, you said the order was with Beverly Hill. How is now became South Bay? What is the story?

There is no way any dealer can deliver a build order in 2 months; shipping to West Coast alone takes 5-6 weeks. 5-6 months from order to delivery is typical. If your order is with South Bay, they told me in April, there was only 2 allocations for CS for the rest of 2018; and I took one. :D

Long story with BH Porsche. But ended up cancelling with them because their promises never materialized. I inquired with So. Bay who said they had an allocation available. I jumped on it. If they had only two allocations I must have one. Once started, build doesn't take but about 10 days based on schedules I've seen and shipping is the time sink. My SA has asserted that schedules are being accelerated but we'll see if that materializes.
