I have a set of 18" OEM winter wheels and tires that I use on my 2016 981 series base Cayman. I will be trading the 981 on a new 718 Cayman S in December. I would like to use my existing wheels on the new car during the winter months.

The Porsche "Techquipment" website shows an 18" winter wheel and tire set for the 718 Cayman S. The wheels have a different design than my wheels.

Is anyone out there using the 981 series 18" wheels on a 718 Cayman S? Are spacers required? Thank you.

Spacers won't be your primary problem: brake clearance will be.

The 718 S models use the brakes off the 991.1 911 Carrera, which are about a half inch larger:
- 981 base: 319 mm front
- 718 S: 330mm front
Also, the brake caliper is larger and the brake rotor is several mm thicker, too.

I wouldn't even try it. To know for sure, I'd find out which OEM 18-inch wheels (if any) fit the 991.1 911 Carrera. But the fact that no 18-inch wheels of any sort are available as options on 718 S models would prevent me from holding out too much hope.

On the Teq site you will find these 18" sizes for 718
Alloy wheels in purist 5-spoke design.
Front axle: 8 J x 18 RO 57 with 235/45 R 18 94V M+S tyre,
rear axle: 9.5 J x 18 RO 49 with 265/45 R 18 101V M+S tyres

The same should be found in the manual.

I'd be pretty surprised if an 18" wheel didn't clear a 13" (330mm) rotor. My 18s clear my 15" (380mm) rotors... Granted the offset is important but that'd be a first for me.

The OP asked specifically about 981-series OEM 18-inch wheels that he already owns. The 718's winter-wheel design changed; to me, that combined with little to no availability of 18-inch OEM designs for 718 S models are signs that measurements and tolerances were changed on OEM wheels to accommodate the new brakes.

If anyone's actually run the 981-series 18-inch wheels on a 718 S, I'll happily stand corrected. I'm just tempering the OP's expectations based on what is available and former vehicular applications of the 718 S's brakes (i.e., the 991.1 911 Carrera).

Thank you all for your input. I think the best thing for me to do is to buy a new set of winter wheels and tires and sell the old one. There is an 18" set at the Porsche Tequipment site, for the 718 Cayman S. There is also a question about the TPMS frequencies. Anyone interested in a set of 18" winter wheels and tires?
