Although I know I've been saying about being out of money, I am considering some various protective & service options. Curious what people think.

1. Extended warranty. Most folks don't get these, but they've always saved me money with German cars. Admittedly, not Porsche but it might be worth it. Since I'm planning on keeping the car a long time I'm looking at a 10 year/75k warranty. Oddly, no dealership seems to sell the Porsche branded one. The dealership I'm buying from uses Zurich, and I've had them on two other cars without issue. (Although I may look at buying one from the dealership where my service will be done, just to avoid any billing hassle.) Admittedly I scored a very good deal on a 7 year 100k mile warranty on my Honda Ridgeline...which I'll never use. That thing is bulletproof.

2. Wheel/tire protection. California roads suck, I've lost tires and wheels before. These wheels are expensive. I've heard bad stories about these warranties (dunno if it was on here or elsewhere), but I'm told that ANY damage will be covered, including scratches. I'll get them to send me the brochure.

3. Prepaid maintenance. This appears to save about $950 over the 5 years. It basically covers the 4 services after the free one.

Anyone bought these? Think they're dumb? I don't mind piece of mind, and they won't break the bank, especially if I think of them as amortized over the expected life of the car.

We use Porsche warranties for car and wheel and tire packages at my dealership. They offer other brands which seem to work really well on non-Porsche cars (other European pre-owned cars). I would connect you with our finance director. She's pretty sharp and knowledgeable about warranties that actually cover you when you need them. Pm me if you want the contact information... I bought my wife's 2012 X5 in December of 2016, shipped out of State, private party. I then went to a different dealership for a warranty that had mostly positive reviews from real consumers. Warranties can be a tricky and dark business practice. I did my homework, (I was working for Audi at the time, not Porsche) and went to a competitive dealership to purchase my warranty. Had I worked at the Porsche store I work now, at that time, I would of bought it from us.

All those plans and warranties make money for the vendors or they wouldn't sell them. So they all cost more than the average claims and use would cost.

Unfortunately you are the only one who can guess/predict whether they'll save you money and/or whether the "peace of mind" is worth the price.

Insurance is the worst form of gambling - returns are worse than a casino. The only possible exception is health insurance, where most every will have cost, risk is prohibitive, and often covered by employers. The liability component of auto homeowners, and professional liability is also a necessary evil given our litigious society (USA). Other that, most insurance is a complete waste of money bordering on a societal scam. YMMV, strong opinion I know.
