The owner's manual notes (pg 314) the maximum load limit for 2 passengers plus cargo should not exceed 400 lbs. And if the total is more? I imagine poor handling and gas mileage. Anything else in your collective experience? I couldn't find any discussion on this topic.

I seem to recall the Lexus LFA is having a GVWR of only about 300 lbs more then curb weight.

So if I weigh 180 lbs, and wearing some clothes, my significant other can only weigh about 105 lbs. ?

I just looked up a Honda Fit, it has a max cargo/occ weight of about 800 lbs, you can’t tell me in a 5 passenger car that doesn’t get exceeded quit often.

Keep in mind that is calculated with a full tank of gas, was her fluid etc... So I suppose you could get a few more lbs in when your fluids are full.

I’m not too worried about going over slightly on occasion.

I gave a ride to a colleague today, and max'd out the official weight of the vehicle. Now I know why there is a limit. Sluggish on turns and slow on the straights, it makes sense to have such guidelines. The distribution is so finely tuned that anything over makes quite a difference.
