Voice Control

My Boxster didn't come with voice control, which apparently is a $0 option that must be selected. I can't imagine there is specific hardware for voice control. My hope is that it can be eventually turned on via coding either through enthusiast knowledge or some retrofit feature from the dealer. Anybody have any info on this?

I looked and didn't see it anywhere on the build sheet. Did you find it there? Is it possibly part of SIRI and Apple Play?
Voice Control is not an option on the customer configuration tool for the 718. Supposedly when you order a car, the sales person has to select it in their system. I bought mine off the lot, so I don't have first hand knowledge, but when I asked at the dealership, that's the story I was told. This is apparently true with the Macan also.

But, like I said, I can't believe it's more than just a coding change. Voice control is disabled on all A5/S5 convertibles in the US for some reason, but you can just turn it on using VAG-COM and it's fine. My turn signal stalk has the voice control button on the end, but it doesn't do anything.
VAG-COM I think has become something people need to have with these and the Audis, you can open up and do so much with it.

Just got off the phone with my dealer...you HAVE to ask for it but it's free. Just got it added to my build

That's really weird... if it's free, why not just have it standardized ?!

The way I understand it, it doesn't work perfectly, and could possibly cause owners to give lower review scores.

It used to cost $600 and was dropped to free, but not pushed heavily by Porsche
Nice, I'm glad you were able to add it. Wish we had it on ours, but the button still works for Siri just fine, and we were lucky enough to get it on our Macan GTS :) By the way thats a great build!!!

Thank you! I'm so excited!!!:D
Whatevva, glad you were able to add it to your build. I hope there's a retrofit for it. Nice looking build. It would've been so hard for me to wait that long.

fjk737, I'm curious. Does the VC button work for Siri for you in you 718? Or are you talking about your Macan? Does it work for Siri via bluetooth, or CarPlay, or both?

I would have never ever thought of it like that. Thank you very much for making me consider that !
Hi mlehrian, yes the VC button will access Siri just fine on CarPlay, I don't I've tried it via bluetooth. As for our Macan, we were lucky and someone selected it on the build and if works as advertised, and if I'm connected to CarPlay it will select Siri as advertised. Hope that helps
I tried to have the dealer to add voice control to my order only to found that voice control can only be added to cars that has navigation option.
Since I am not interested in the navigation, I cannot add voice control - it shows up in the dealer's build system only and when he try to add it, a window pops up to prompt the addition of the navigation system. And I told him to skip.
I have voice control on my vehicle & if it makes you feel better I don't think you're missing much. With the roof up on a Boxster it's pretty hit & miss (more miss) & with the roof down it's all but useless. As a result I never even use it.
I just yell:"Hey Siri!" And voila, voice control...:D
I don't find Siri to be much good either, the only words it seems to recognise are the profanities that inevitably flow forth when the last vestiges of my patience have finally ebbed away. Maybe it's because I have quite a deep voice, I don't really know, but I have some success with Cortana & Alexa & very little with either Siri or the factory installed voice control. Perhaps when I'm next in my Boxster I'll have a try at adopting a fake German accent.
Voice Control is code QH1 according to build information on a 718 CS I just test drove. It does not show up on the configurator so yes, you do need to ask for it.
What is the current status of Voice Control in MY22/23? Is it available as a separate option or is it only available with NAV option?

its in conjunction with NAV option - its not a stand-alone option without NAV

Thanks, I suspected that. So if I want to have voice control with CarPlay or to use with Bluetooth phone I need to order NAV even though I don’t want that.
