I know when the car is cooling down the fans continue to run but even a couple hours later the car will make random clicks and buzzes. don't know if it senses me at the workbench a couple feet away.

Maybe our cars are like excited young dogs. They sense our presence and really want to go for a drive.

Seriously, I have no idea about all of the noises, either.

Do you have your key fob on or about your person when you hear these nosies? I have also heard similar squeaks and groans........I will put the question to my SA and see if he knows.

, I am almost certain I hear this noise when I first open the door, sometimes when driving and I believe after shutting down the engine. .
Mine does this sitting in the garage. IT will do it over and over again - exact same sound like once every 15 or 20 minutes. I have never timed it so that is an approximation. Sometimes when I 'm in the garage all day - I will hear it regularly all day long. I thought it was something with the door locking system but the doors are not locked.

I know when you open and shut the doors the windows will move down about a 1/4 inch and then go back up after closed. it is similar to that noise but the windows don't move.

Nithros described what mine does, I don't usually have the key in my pocket and I don't have the automatic unlock feature. of course I am unaware if it does it when I am not in the garage.... Sort of like the sound of a tree falling in the woods with no one around.

Since I don't yet have my CS, I'm not speaking from personal experience but with most new cars loaded with electronic nannies, it's not surprising to have audible clicks and buzzes. But it's disconcerting when happening for unknown reasons. To minimize parasitic current draw, the manual on my X3 recommends locking the car when parked. This apparently shuts down any unnecessary electrical activity. Expect certain things to still be alert but might be worth a try - or you may have already tried it. Just a thought . . .

Let's see--

Memory functions re-set.
General cooling monitor/shutdown.
?Turbo cooling monitor/shutdown.
Coming home lights.
Interior lights.
Alarm system arm.

Anything else?
Yep:
Electric fuel pump on/off
Electrohydraulic systems (steering, brakes)
Headlight ballast/leveling
A/C & cabin-fan servo motors
PCM/Infotainment (shuts down after about 8 minutes)

Plus, the car is always in a state of 'sleep' instead of completely shut off to raise/lower the doors, react to fob commands, receive mobile app commands, trigger the alarm, etc. Think of it as like your TV or stereo with that little LED light that glows to indicate that 'off' really is standby mode. Our cars work the same way.

The only time your car completely shuts off is when you disconnect the battery -- and even then a few critical computerized systems (VAG-COM, PCM) have internal power sources to retain settings, etc.

All this is why once I realised that noises when parking were inevitable, I stopped paying attention to them.
