Hi,
I'm considering and exhaust upgrade. However, it is a priority for me to be able to replace the exhaust myself at home at convenience without too much trouble. Because of that, I'm basically considering to replace just the axelback (I think that's the correct nomenclature, I'm referring to something like this: Porsche 718 Boxster / Cayman Performance Exhaust - Soul Performance Products).

So, what components would I need to remove from the car in order to be able to dismantle the OEM exhaust and replace it with the new one and vice versa?

I already did that on my Miata. It was pretty straightforward. I just needed to raise the car with a hydraulic jack, get underneath the vehicle, loosen some screws and remove the exhaust. What about the 718? I've been looking for videos where I could see what components are required to be disassembled, but there are very few of them online.
I've seen some people disassembling the under-body shield, arms of the support brace and wheels. Is this really necessary to replace only the muffler? I don't have a car elevator, just a hydraulic jack, so it's quite important to avoid removing body shields, support braces and so on.

I've been able to find some videos from older models. On these videos they all seem to remove only the wheels to get access to the exhaust bolts. Not sure if this also applies to the 718 though.

Anyone here has replaced the exhaust himself and can provide some info?

Thanks!

PS: I need to be able to swap from stock to aftermarket exhaust and vice versa easily to get through my country's compulsory technical inspection which occurs at the 4th year of the vehicle and then every 2 years (they are very restrictive regarding aftermarket components). I'm not willing to take the car to the mechanic before and after every technical inspection to have the exhaust changed. I'd rather do it myself at home.

Hey! Thank you for considering our Performance Exhaust System! Fellow former Miata owner here, happy to help you!

Disassembly will be the easiest part. Depending on your transmission, we will have different mounting brackets, spacers, and hardware to securely mount the system. If you have questions during the installation, give us a call and we can try and assist.

If you haven't seen it already, here is an installation guide for the PDK trans.

Jack stands!! Even with a hydraulic jack that has a locking pin, quality jack stands help ensure your safety. This should not be an option.

There should be a minimum of two points of contact. Three when using two jack stands.

Thanks for your help. The installation guide may be very helpful. I'm glad to see the exhaust can be replaced without removing the wheels or under-body shields.
Is it possible with your exhaust to keep on using the stock dual tips?

Thanks for your advice. That was exactly what I intended to do. Lift the rear of the car with the hydraulic jack and then secure it with a jack stand under each side of the vehicle (two front wheels on the ground + 2 supports on the rear).

By the way, is there any segment of the exhaust manifold (downpipe, catalytic converter, header...) which could be replaced and remain hidden from view behind some under-body shield or any other component? This might be another way around my inspections problem. If it's hidden, I could get through technical inspections without them noticing I'm not 100% stock, as long as the sound is not obnoxious. This way I could get it fitted the first time and be done with it.

You have to remove wheels. Don't let anyone tell you different. I have the soul performance exhaust and did the install myself.

Actually, do you have it with the valve?
I will like to replace the passenger side muffler.
Also, Bolt-On X-Pipe With Tips

Thanks!
I can only sell them as a pair as we get the overaxle pipe bends done in pairs. Bolt-On X-Pipe with tips we have in stock and ready to ship.
