I ordered a 2019 Boxster last November. My dealer is telling me my car, along with all production prior to March, 2019, will be delayed in the port (Jacksonville) to implement a safety repair associated with an energy absorbing collapsible structural member in the front bumper. Although I searched to find out more details I cannot find anything about this. Right now the ship is in Davisville and I expect arrival in Jacksonville by Friday (3/15). It then has to be shipped to Atlanta as I am taking delivery at the Performance Center.

Of course I am impatient and becoming more impatient every day to get my hands on this machine. Does anyone have any experience with this sorta safety recall and how long it delays delivery?

I would also be curious to know more about what is being repaired as it makes me very uneasy knowing my brand new car is going to be taken apart to fix something structural. I fully understand how energy is absorbed through deformation of a structural member but I cannot imagine anything large enough in the bumper itself to absorb any consequential amount of energy in a collision.

Nothin' that three rivets won't fix.

(I say . . . I say - that's a joke, son. (That's a Foghorn Leghorn reference (I hate having to explain myself)).)

Why not duct tape? Chewing gum? RTV?
