Hey all,

First let me say I am a first-time Porsche owner. I picked up a CPO base 2019 718 Cayman with PTV, PASM, and Sport Chrono a few weeks ago and wow, it's amazing. I came from a 2017 Audi S3. The 718 is everything I expected and more. Plenty quick for me.

I'm curious as to what the underbody/undercarriage is made out of, because I was driving through an ally that had a dip I couldn't see and the bottom scrapped the ground. Felt like it bottomed out and bounced. I was going about 10-15 MPH. Hated the feeling

It looks like the rubber coating got scrapped off. I'd assume the frame is still fine, but should I be concerned about corrosion, or is the bottom all aluminum? Pic attached of car and and scrape.

Thanks!

Try a magnet ! You should be able to find some Wurth undercoating or seam sealer if you are concerned about it. Im sure the car is fine!
Good call on the magnet, just tried and the magnet has zero affect so it's probably some form of aluminum.

I found this Wurth product which appears to be a close match to the original material so I may give it a shot just to be safe.

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I had a few inquires in reference to the OP's first pic: 1) What is that grey compound that is applied to the underside? 2) What underbody component is the grey compound covering?

there's seam sealer and then some sound deadening compound / undercoat applied. The under body is steel construction
