Wheel Color?

5101 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  G935
Going to be getting my 718 Cayman next week - White in color with 19' Boxster S wheels - as seen in the attached photos.

The question is: Should I get the wheels painted black or leave them silver?

I like them in silver. But they are such a pain to keep clean. A lot worse then the 21" turbo wheels I had on my previous car?! So personally I'm starting to think that I should get them painted gloss black. Which will look good as well I'm sure...
I didn't expect the silver to be harder to keep clean. But thats good to know!
I'd go with black. The contrast would be very nice.
I have the same rim on my Boxster S.... I think it's a really handsome design that would lose some of its nuance in black.

What I mean is this: on first (and second) glance the wheel appears to be 10 symmetrical (identical) spokes with some kind of a twist that makes the spoke-ends appear different depending on the angle viewed. Closer examination reveals 5 identical wishbones, where the ends of each wishbone both flatten towards the inside, creating an asymmetrical 'twist' when comparing spoke-ends on adjacent wishbones. Nice....

It also shows a lot of 'dish' when viewed from oblique angles, another subtle nuance that tends to get lost when blacked out.

And these rims clean more easily than the 'lobster-fork' 19s on my 987S.

But I have to admit I've never been a fan of painted rims.

I know it's not a vote--but colour is almost entirely a personal choice.
As you are evidently having a difficult time choosing, I suggest you look at lots of pictures, use the configurator, and, the best--get out and see the options in person.
Whatever you choose, the best view is the one from behind the wheel.:)

Black wheels on white cars look good. I have that on my Boxster GTS.
I have them in glossy black, I like that combination a lot.
Very much personal preference, but I think the silver looks classy, black is a bit boy racer to my eye.

The silver is a nice contrast with a dark color car. Brake caliper color is another consideration as well.
I was debating over the exact same thing.

Here is a picture of my metallic white 718 Cayman S of 4 weeks with Carrera S wheels painted in black satin. I would not have it any other way.;) The picture was taken in the dealership showroom when I picked up the car.

After much debate I decided to leave them silver. It feels like a much classier look to me.
