I'm racing to get my ducks in a row before an allocation freeze on December 5. I'm getting some mixed information about where the phone dock is located with the 718 Connect+; perhaps there is some kind of misunderstanding involved. I was hoping to clear it up here.

The configurator led me to believe that the phone gets docked in the storage area inside the center arm rest. The salesperson contends that depiction is incorrect, and that the phone is connected in the glove box.

Could someone who has Connect+ please tell me which is correct? And, if it is in the center arm rest storage area - how much room does it take up? How much storage space do you lose?

Many thanks,

Joe

Okay, just a second. I've cleaned my sloppy post up a little. Now to understand the replies. Filoup says glove box; Gallatin says ditto, center arm rest. If these are both cars with Connect+, I remain confused.

Gallatin - do you have some kind of additional physical platform for the phone in the center arm rest? I'm trying to determine whether Connect+ requires any of the center arm rest storage space above and beyond simply putting a phone and a cable in there.

Am I asking the wrong questions here?

Perhaps I misunderstood your question. I just have connect and CarPlay. I connect my phone in the center arm rest and I close my phone in the storage area. I think I read over the Connect + part of your question--sorry for the confusion. I am not sure if you need something special for Connect +.

To use Connect+ (Apple CarPlay etc) the iPhone must be connected to the usb port in the Center Console only, the usb port in the glove box allows connection to the PCM but the iPhone will be just like a usb device to play audio files.
This is the same on a 2017 991.2 C2S and the 2017 718 Cayman - no extra hardware is required if Connect+ is optioned - just a usb cable connected to the center armrest/storage usb port.
Cheers

The 718 Owners Manual specifically states that to take advantage of the smartphone-integration features of BOTH Porsche Connect and Porsche Connect Plus, the USB port in the center console must be used. On 718s, the USB port in the glove box is only good for (very slow) device charging, iPod integration, and for data transfer to PCM4; it is not enabled for smartphone integration.

This page in the online 718 manual should help clarify things, and lead to other parts of the manual that talk about the PCM system in general:

Yup! The center arm rest is the spot to connect your phone to access Apple Car play. You're not going to be taking up any space in the center console armrest because there is no room in the center console armrest. It's pretty much designed to hold a phone laying flat or other small thin objects (think phone) ?
