In my new Boxster, where is the hands free microphone mounted?

There is also no obvious location, as indicated by a tiny hole or small grill in the console or instrument cluster. However, there are two small grills on top of the steering column escutcheon (just behind the steering wheel) I assume are two microphones.

Very likely so. As a directional mic (as described in the manual) it is quite effective. That used to be the technique on laptops with a directional mic. But I don't know where they are in the 718 cabin. They are well-hidden.
