I'm getting a whistling noise from about 120km/h. Sounds like it's coming from the drivers side window just behind my head.

Dealer made and 'adjustment' today which had zero affect. They did spin a tale that piller-less cars can be prone to that. But the passenger side does not whistle, so there goes that theory.

Does anyone else get this? if it's a Cayman thing then fine I will live with it. But if it's just mine then it has to be fixed.

We have a Cayman and also have the same wind noise RHS of driver’s side window (Also not on passenger side), it tends to only be audible over 65mph and is annoying, however we are living with it (for now) as we don’t want the dealer stripping the door or some other attempt to fix when we may generate another problem. If it gets worse we will re-visit the idea of having them look at it.

Thanks for the response. I feel slightly better that it's not just mine. Good call on not stripping the door. I will report back if anything changes on my end.

Have it in mine also. Not planning on doing anything about it except learn to ignore it. Will keep an eye out to see if anyone finds a fix.

@GregW Has a good suggestion here, since this sound is almost certainly caused by a poor window-to-rubber seal in the B-pillar. Try it. If that doesn't work, find some rubber lubricant/protectant and condition the seals. If that doesn't work, test the area for water leakage (the B-pillar won't normally leak during rain, especially if it's a small leak. You'll need to spray water directly at the seam, or do a smoke test of the car's interior.) At that point, I'd notify your dealer.

Yes, deffo try rubber lubricant to help seal to the glass absolutely resetting the windows as suggested
Another thing to try is, not easy, but to first identify ‘precisely’ where the whistle is and use eg small piece of material,
eg handkerchief, window down, window up with hanky in the way to be trapped To see if it seals better, might need a couple of goes and take it from there . . .

From my own experience I know paint protective film on the mirrors can also be the reason. If the film does not go into the small gutter on top of the mirror housing this can cause a whistling noise just behind your head.

My Cayman has this issue too, and I've read any number of others online with it as well. This leads me to think it's inherent in some facet of the shape of the car. Not that I wouldn't try to address the issue with the good ideas listed above, it can't hurt to try, but I'd only be so hopeful. Good luck and let us know if you're able to fix it!

I didn't spend much time w/ my car before I had the PPF applied but I always suspected the mirror. No, the film doesn't go all the way to the groove on mine either. I don't get the impression my whistle is related to the window seal. I rather suspect it's outside the car. As it's now mid-May though there's a simple fix: put the top down!

If it is turbulence around the mirror then a set of the small wind deflectors that fit on the small triangle at the front of the windows may help. You car easily make a test pair out of thin cardboard or plastic. Permanent sets are available; making a permanent set is fairly easy. Let me know if you want some details about making and fitting a permanent set.

You can try to determine if this is the cause by putting a strip of masking tape extending the ppf to the gutter. I had the ppf redone to the gutter and problem was solved. :)

Interesting thread, i recently had PPF applied to mine and started to get the whistling, i initially figured the guys who fitted it had damaged the door or something but then started reading up about how the PPF on the mirror can cause the issue, suprised me that such a small change can have this effect! Will try out the tape extension and gett my PPF man to make the change!

I've noticed this whistling noise as well but thought it may have been from the spoiler at the back being in the raised position. I'll try the window reset first before I do some deep investigation.

I recently had whistling from my VW GTI driver's side. When I tilted the moonroof the driver door whistle went away, as the light pressure difference pulled the door inward for a tighter seal. Replaced the seal a month ago and all good now!

Maybe try cracking your opposite side window and see if that stops the whistle to figure if it's a seal issue?

fyi the tape test has proved that the XPEL ppf is the cause of the whistling, booking it in to get it extended into the guttering of the mirror housing ... thanks all!
