Probably because they have different owners. This is like asking why is there more than one car brand or more than one supermarket chain.

Hi @ANGST. Welcome to the forum!

This forum was started because of the waves upon waves of unnecessary (and, often, inaccurate) criticism about what the 718 is by so-called Porschephiles on forums such as rennlist, 6SpeedOnline and, yes, Planet9.

It is well documented back in early 2017 that one of the owners/mods of P9 is a self-admitted adherent of the flat-6-or-its-not-a-Porsche school. This person actively and consistently encouraged others with that attitude to browbeat the 718 on P9, and he did it himself frequently, too. As I understand it, this owner/mod is no longer a primary stakeholder of P9, but he was still a Mod as of about three months ago, which is the last time I visited the forum until just now.

P9 has still not set up a fully formed section devoted to the fourth-generation Boxster/Cayman, as it has done for all of the cars' previous generations. All it apparently deserves over there is a lousy general subforum. If that doesn't tell you anything about the overall attitude toward the 718 there, I don't know what does.

I also looked at Planet9, but I likes the friendly people on this site. No one is going to crap on you if you only have a base model. We all love the 718 . Not everyone can afford a gt4
+1 I think there are probably a lot of base model owners here, who could afford an S, GTS, or GT4 if they so chose, but picked a base for the same reasons I did. I no longer track or autocross my cars. I wanted something fun I could wring out on the street, traffic conditions/speed limits/weather conditions permitting. The HP and torque of the base car is more than enough for that enjoyment.......... h*ll, some might argue that it is still more than is needed on the street >:D People that crap on this car, all iterations of the 4 cylinder, show their true colors, IMO, and do not rate it as "true car aficionados" in my book. YMMV 0:)

Totally agree, and, I think Porsche designated the car as a 718 for a specific historic reason (no matter why they felt they needed to go to four-cylinders for it).

forums are funny things. i was a long time member at pelican parts and a lot of the people who own air cooled porsches look down with disdain at anyone who owns a water cooled version regardless of the model. then there are those that think 4 cylinders is a mistake, but i always point out the 356 line and they are usually quite quickly. i never got the point of that.

...not to mention that pesky 919 2-liter 4 cyl turbo, arguably the fastest Porsche ever made >:D

This forum is definitely the most friendly Porsche forum around.
Everyone is welcome, discussion about non-718 models just have to be contained in the "Other Vehicle Discussion" or "Off Topic Discussion" section :D

I joined P9 before ever taking ownership of my CPO 2014 Cayman in 2016 because I wanted information on the car and the experiences of its owners. Afterwards, I participated, posted, and really enjoyed the site. I knew when I purchased the 981 that I would be ordering a 2018 982 so I assumed the site would be helpful in that regard too.

Unfortunately, that assumption turned out to be, for the most part, incorrect. Some negativity was, I suppose, to be expected but what annoyed me and ultimately caused me to rarely visit the site anymore was the uninformed parroting of a couple of youtubers and so-called automotive "journalists" who, rather than promoting the many features of the 718 simply focused on their opinion of the "noise" of the new four cylinder engine. Most, if not all, of these naysayers on P9 had never driven a 718 and certainly did not own one yet they felt compelled to come into the 718-oriented forum and tell everyone how bad their new car is - I am sure many first time Porsche owners were a bit taken back by that.

After respectfully replying to the naysayers several times from the perspective of someone who actually owns both a 981 and 982 and reading their "pi**ing-contest" replies, I realized they were not willing to come into the future but rather were content to stay in the past and not listen to anyone who was a true fan of the marque and all of its cars and all of the variations. Oh, and I should mention being chastised by one of the moderators for questioning one of their apparently long-term members and vocal anti-718 poster.

My 2014 Cayman is a wonderful car and I enjoyed every minute driving it - short trips, interstate trips, backroad twisties, and everything in between. I enjoy my 2018 Cayman even more.

Rennlist is far far worse than P9......never met so many discontent people in my life. In fact, a month or so ago in the interest of helping the discourse on the 2RS I posted the following comment below and when I stated "a small but vocal minority" I was being more than generous.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Some advice for newbie’s and this is advice coming from a newbie don’t overextend yourself to buy these cars. If you can afford them buy them and have a great time but if you can’t they're not worth it because when it comes right down to it all these GT cars are just cars, Porsches true, but just cars.
Additionally, there is allot of great information on this forum and I have learned allot, and clearly have allot more to learn but, take everything that is written with a grain of salt. There are people on this forum with ulterior motives........some are sales people that will try to steer the conversation a particular way and there is a very small but vocal minority of people on this forum that are not high quality people…..I call them haters that are down right miserable sorts. In fact, I often chuckle at some of the negative comments and think boy how can these people afford these cars they have such an unsuccessful attitude………........This site should be about, and primarily is about, sharing experiences, knowledge and enthusiasm for a great hobby. I guess when it comes down to it, for some people, not even a great car like a Porsche can make them happy.

Planet9? I figured no one went there ever since Pluto was declared not a planet. But I wouldn't know because I've never been there. It's too far away for a quick jaunt without packing lunch.

I've been to Rennlist however. There's a planetary shuttle that leaves regularly not too far from my home. From the numerous number of posts I see there I'd say no one goes there anymore because it's too crowded. I don't take the shuttle very often and generally find the trip is not worth the trip.
