I recently came across a set of Michellin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires from a GT4. The rears are 295/30/20 and the fronts are 245/35/20. I currently have Carrera Sport Wheels, Current OEM Setup is:
Front - 8.5 x 20 ET 57 - 235/35 ZR 20 (88Y)
Rear - 10.5 x 20 ET 47 - 265/35 ZR 20 (95Y)
I did want to go 10mm wider altogether, but I came across a deal that's too hard to pass up (think labor only!)
I'm curious as to anyone having experience going this wide. I'm not looking to rub or modify anything to make this fit. It either fits, or it doesn't. My car has PASM, but everything else aside from the ECU is stock (I'll write a review of my ECU tune later). Any idea if this will fit?

Much Appreciated as Always...

I think the 295's would rub. I received a very detailed email from APEX Race Parts when I inquired about their 18" Porsche wheels. In that email, the widest tire fitment recommended was 285, but with a requirement to dial in significant negative camber to avoid rubbing. With 295's, you may also need to roll the rear fenders.

I don't have first hand experience though, so someone else may know better.

I think that's why no one has responded. There's probably very limited experience with that tire size here, at least on stock wheels. I don't think it's even ideal for a Cayman to run tires that wide, unless you have a power modded S or GTS. My situation is unique. I have access to a slightly used set of GT4 tires for free. I would simply pay for the install. If I were buying a new set of tires, I would likely go 10mm wider on the front (245) and rear (275) in the rear and 35 series instead of 30 to gain more rubber. I'm not a fan of the stretched look or feel. I like meaty tires, not the ultra low profile we have now for those of us with 20 inch wheels...

There is 718S forsale in my city and he has put on GT4 spec cup 2S on his Oem Carerra S wheels, 295 on the back. Here is the Link:

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/de...-5775553?pageSource=details&id=SSE-AD-5775553

I will message him and ask if there is any rubbing.

Though I think the issue with rubbing is when you install the GT4 rims as well which are 11" ET20.
Thanks Don! That's the first time I've ever seen what it would look like... The wheels look pretty tucked in. I doubt they rub, but I would love to know for certain, if you're able to find out. It doesn't state he's on lowering springs, but the car looks lower than factory. If he's lowered with tires that wide, and not rubbing, there's no chance I would rub. I believe my Carrera Sport Wheels stick out a bit further than the ones he has on the car, but I still don't see a problem based on those pics.
Btw, $125k AUD??? That's $90k US for a used Cayman S! A used Cayman S will go for $65-75k here, depending on spec.

No problem.

The guy just got back to me and he says no issues with rubbing and he said his car is lowered.

That's right Carrera Sport wheels are front 8.5 J x 20 ET 57, Rear: 10.5 J x 20 ET 47.

Carrera S are Front: 8 J x 20 ET 57, Rear: 10 J x 20 ET 45

So at the front the rims have 6mm less inner clearance and extend further an extra 6mm.

At the rear they are 8mm less inner and extend 4mm.

I don't think it will be a problem, just means the tires should still have a little bit of stretch on your Carrera Sport rims. If anything the S rims are maybe a little narrow whereas the Sport should be perfect.

In Australia we have a 33% luxury car tax + another 10% VAT so performance/prestige cars are very expensive here. I'd say that car will sell for around $80 to $85k US so yeah almost as much as a new one in your part of the world!

You are the man! Thanks for the call and confirmation! We'll see when the tech has time to install the tires. I had him install rear rotors and pads, along with an aftermarket axleback exhaust for my wife's 335i M-sport a few days ago. I'm already a complete Stage 2 on her car, but this last part (exhaust) has caused some unnecessary friction between the wife and I. Now she's asking for her old X5 back and saying things like "this is now your car, not mine. I just want a comfortable car." After I explained that I was doing this to upgrade her car and give her a more enjoyable driving experience (yes, I was stupid enough to say this), she swung at me! TWICE! Thankfully, she didn't connect, but she definitely got her point across. A bit dramatic for my taste, but I did fully modify her car :|
Anyway, back to the horrible pricing in Australia! That's crazy! That means for a new Cayman S there, you can buy an equally spec'd Carrera S here! Wow! That's just unfortunate... Fortunately, when you do drive your upcoming GTS there, it will be extremely special and rare. Where I live, a Cayman just means you're either too poor or too cheap to buy a Carrera. Fortunately, for the real car enthusiasts, they know exactly why you chose a Cayman ;)

If only the Danish government would be satisfied with a 33% luxury car tax + another 10% VAT.
The Danish car tax system is rather complicated, but in simple terms there is a 25% VAT, then there is a 85% base car tax for the first 193,400 DKK (approximately 29,700 USD) of the cars value, and the value above this is taxed at 150% (not that long ago this was 180%). Besides this there are a number of deductibles and/or additions based on fuel economy and safety equipment.
The effect of this tax system is that the 718 Boxster 2.0 PDK I have on order will cost me around 1,175,000 DKK or roughly 180,500 USD, in USA I could have bought both the 718 and a 911 for that money :(

That's why you got to move to Sweden ;)
Before when I worked over there we had 6 employes that moved over.
I live in the middle of Skåne and we have 4 familys that's original from Denmark.

Well I live and work (family business) in the most northern part of Jutland, so if I moved to Malmö I would have more than a 5 hour drive to work, Göteborg would only be 4½ hours travel by car and ferry, but then I would be relying on the ferry departing when I need it to, which is very unlikely.

At least this part of Denmark has reasonably cheap houses, I paid only 525,000 DKK (80,700 USD) a little over 10 years ago for my house, which has since been partly renovated.
But that was also one of the cheaper houses in this area.

You live on the wrong side....
But as you say, its much cheaper to live on that side then in the Copenhagen area.

Its same for us compared to Stockholm!

Wow that is bad. I know places in Asia like Singapore are similarly expensive and almost impossible for people to own a prestige car. Though with your house price at only 80,700 USD is a bargain and with the money you save you can afford the Porsche!

In our area a family home is now $1.7 to $2.1 mill US and this is not the most expensive area :|

I've also been guilty of modding the wife's car. There is a fine line particularly if she notices the mod! I usually draw a line at aftermarket exhaust mods, although our 330i F31 came with a M Performance exhaust but it is quite subtle until you put your foot down. :)

The 335i is already pretty quick stock let alone stage 1. Maybe time to focus on your Cayman!

Wow, this is quite bad, in my post code the most expensive house for sale right now is 1.3 mill USD, and this is an exceptionally nice, but also overpriced house built in 2007 and with ocean view.
300-500k USD will still get you a really nice house in my area, but if you are looking near the larger cities in Denmark prices will also quickly rise to levels like yours, but then you also get really nice houses.

$1.7 to $2.1 mill US in Sydney Australia is close to the city in a very good area but still $350k to $700k US in reasonable neighborhoods out of the city. Sydney is probably similar to prices in places like Los Angeles or London UK in terms of real estate. Does not leave much less for the car fund :|

Tires were installed today. The fitment is great! No rubbing, actually, it's doesn't even seem close to rubbing. Fantastic grip, as to be expected, but what I wasn't expecting is that the car will still allow you to swing it's tail out a bit (I was worried that 295 Cup 2's would make the rear end too planted and not allow for any slip or play), but it's more controlled and more predictable in slide. The biggest difference is, you have to warm up the tires. Unlike the Goodyear F1's on my Cayman or Michellin PS4S on the Beemer, you can't just jump in and drive hard. You need the rears to be warmed up or you'll be in for an unpleasant surprise. There's definitely more tire noise, but the increased grip makes an already near perfect chassis give you even more confidence than before... Again, this is only day one. Let's see how I feel about these tires when it rains.

Good thing you live in AZ as Cup2’s hate wet and if you add cold you will definently be not impressed.

Bumping this thread.

Now that you have had the tires installed for a few months, how do you like them?

Any chance you can post pics?

Also, newbie question - are the 20” Carrera rims that come on the 718 the same width as what come on the 911, are they narrower? I’m just wondering if the wider Carrera tires would fit in the 718 rims exactly like the Carrera rims or if they would stick out from the car more (not necessarily a bad thing to prevent rubbing).
