I had this problem with my 981 as well. The other week my windows were frozen shut and would not lower down when I tried to open the door. I was able to coax it open but couldn't really shut it even after I sat for a little while idling (not that idling the car warms up the doors all that much, but I did have the interior heat on). I drove to my destination with the door half-latched and the car complaining loudly, and by the time I arrived it was thawed enough to close properly.

I don't really have any solutions to this, I've heard things like using a lube on the rubber or a credit card to try to separate the rubber from the glass.

An old trick on 986 where to take of the protective rubber caps and spray with WD40.
The caps was there so you could adjust the window against the top.
Also the window seal in the door needs to be lubed with WD40/silicone.

What protective caps?

I dont know if the 718 have them cause i have not looked for them
On 986 there is on the side and on the bottom of the holes and they are protected by rubber caps.
The holes are there so you can align the window and the bottom one also work as very smal drain if i remember correctly.

Anyways, on 986 we took the of caps and blasted the inside with WD40, that greased the cables for the window and gave some protection agains freezing.
But the upper seal is more importen to keep clean and greased, then water cant go inside te door.

Absolutely the best stuff for ensuring rubber bits don't squeak, get stuck, or deteriorate is Krytox. Very small amounts are used and it lasts almost forever. Good thing too, even tiny bottles are costly!

Easy fix! Move to a warmer and happier climate =) we just don't run into these issues in Phoenix. I spent 10 years in Detroit though, and I remember having that problem. I used to have to drive for 15-20 minutes with the heater on blast. The windows would usually open after that. Well, you hear a POP, then they go down...

I lived for 4 years in Norway. My boss told me that you spray all rubber seals around the doors with silicone spray. I did it after the first snow. Never had any problem with the rubber sticking.

Fast forward to a skiing trip in Austria. -25C at night. Next morning I couldn't open any door of the rental Fiesta (couldn't turn any lock either). Had to wait until the sun thawed the car. Went in search for silicone spray. No one knew what I was talking about... I found one in the afternoon. Half a day's skiing gone!...

I would have left the car and gone skiing for the day. What a waste of time >:D indeed. It's a rental ;)

The thought crossed my mind... Hauling the skis for 2.5 km in ski boots didn't appeal to me... my wife nixed it altogether!

I didn't expect that silicone spray would be such a rarity in the Kitzbuhel area...:(
