New Member so forgive! We are buying a 2017 yellow Boxster soon but need to figure out wheels.

Living in Denver we need to be able to put winter tires on for those cold days and those when it snows a bit. The car is for my girlfriend and she wants black wheels and likes the 20" Carrera S wheels. But you can't get anything but summer only tires on those, I have tried. Not to mention we probably need 18" so they have some side wall flex.

I know some are thinking " Boxster in Denver in the Winter???? Really we don't have that many bad days but you can not trust the forecast. :D

Can anyone point me to where Porsche shows the details on the bore size and the size for the caps? I see offset but not the rest. Dealers have not been much help and the on-line guys don't have details on the 2017 yet.

What about where to go for some used 2017 Porsche 18" wheels that we could have painted?

Welcome to the forums and you definitely hit the nail on the head with what I was thinking lol.

But 20 inch winter wheels are definitely rare to come by, but there is a few out there such as mentioned above

Unfortunately at the moment I can not seem to find any info on the bore size at all so we may have to wait a little bit longer. When is your 718 coming in ?

We have not ordered it yet. We plan to do the Atlanta pickup, tour the East Coast then drive back to Denver. So if we order now we likely would have to drive it home in Winter with the summer only tires on it. We waited too long! So we plan to order next Feb.

I just want to know our options so she can decide on wheels. Black 20" + some 18" for winter or just get Silver 19" and have them painted and swap tires back and forth.

But I ain't diving her to work every day it gets cold!!!!!

That sounds like a lot of fun but kind of scary if snow appears. Especially in February, that may be a bit intense. I'm pretty sure some 18's would fit on there. But it's just finding them now may be a bit difficult opposed to getting it and taking it to a wheel shop.

Winter with the Cayman will be fun. I have a friend that does exactly that and it's his primary winter toy aside from a Lexus LX for practicality, not much you can carry around with you in the Cayman, just good enough ventures with little to no baggage.

I found that 1010Tires has after-market wheels for the 718, made by Replika model # R140A winter approved. Winter tire size would be 234/45/18 in front and 235/50/18 in rear, all wheels would have the same width. Tires would be Michelin X-Ice 3 - H rated, Package price all in is just over $2000. I am probably going to go for this combination

235 in front and back is not a combination which is approved by Porsche. Here in Germany it would not allowed to use that and I would not recommend it.
Why not go for used 18" rims original Porsche for the 981 or 718 and put Michelin Pilot Alpine 4 on it. These are the recommended tyres from Porsche and the right ones for a sports car like the 718.

OZ Racing has wheels that fit the 718 in 18", 19" and 20" and can be purchased at Tire Rack. Very good wheels for the price. Tire Rack can also put together a winter wheel tire combination package.

When I go to the tire rack web-site for Canada it states "there are no winter wheels available for your vehicle". And looking through Michelin winter tires available in Canada, there are none that are the original rear size of 265/45/18. the Alpine N spec are only 19" and the Alpine PA4 are only available in the 245/45/18 or 245/50/18. Apparently, if you stay with the original sizing only the Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero II are available here, and there is only one type of wheel that is the same as original: the Victor Lemans, package price is about $2800 CDN (probably half of what Porsche would charge). Might be our best bet then.

Tire Rack has not updated their website for 718 wheels, so it will not show anything, but you can purchase OZ wheels from Tire Rack.. If you go the OZ Racing website, you can configure the 718 or 718 S with their wheels, Wheels - OZ Racing. I have been looking at the Leggera and Ultraleggera wheels. A friend of mine purchased the Ultraleggera from Tire Rack for his GT4 with no issues. Both sets of wheels for the 718 are 54mm offset for the front (57mm stock) and 40mm offset rear (45 stock).

I hope this helps.

Thanks, I will look into it, but in Canada our top allowable speed is 120km/hr unlike Germany. And on a snowy road the narrower rear tire would provide better traction (more pressure per sq cm).

Would 18" wheels fit the 718 S? 19" in the smallest wheel available for it when you purchase it. Would the 18" clear the brakes?

Thanks, no luck. did not find any 18" wheels for 718 on OZ web-site, and certainly no winter certified wheels

I am not sure about the "winter certified part", but the Alleggertia HLT 5F come in 8x18, 57 offset and 9x18, 43 offset. I autocross race and will race this car, so the OZ Racing wheels work for me. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the US, so we do get snow from time to time. With that said, my car will only see snow looking out from the garage;-)

I've decided to go with the dealers winter tire package, 18" wheels with Pirelli winter tires, complete w Porsche centre caps and TPMS, a bit more expensive than aftermarket but not much. Now let's hope for a snowy winter ski season at Whistler.

I ended up going with a package from Tire Rack. They had a set of 19" wheels at about 30-35% off, so I ordered those. I'm hoping that this means there will be no snow this winter. :)
