Today was a win/lose day but it could have been much worse.

The dealer installed a new steering wheel in my Cayman, supplied by Porsche warranty. A thread had torn on the original and was threatening to get worse. It feels different, a little smoother, slightly harder to grip but not significantly so.

The loss-but-lucky part was I got clipped by a stone. No, make that a large rock. It looked like some kids bouncing big rocks down a steep driveway and into the street. The clues? A rock the size of a softball was in the street, out of traffic's way. I saw a boy, maybe 10 or 12 y.o., partway up the hill on my right jump out of the way of something. A second later I heard the grinding thump on the right rear of my car. I had only half a mile to my destination so I checked the car when I got there. No body damage, but a visible ding in the rear wheel. Fortunately it should be covered by my wheel/tire coverage. I filed a police report.

Yikes Jim, what a bummer. I scraped my front right wheel on a curb and the dealerships traveling "wheel guy" repaired it so well, it was almost pointless to try to find where the damage had been. In fact, I couldn't. I also have the wheel coverage, so it cost me nothing (although the automated receipt software but $200 on the receipt). When I got an emailed bill, I looked at the paperwork I'd signed and saw the charge. Sent the service manager I dealt with a reply mail reminding him of my warrranty and a week later I got a "never mind" mail.
