718 Coding with X431

I guess one can get into the weeds with this thing if they're not fully read in on it, but I will be following along. There are some items you have already addressed that I would also like to do as well. Did you purchase it from Amazon? Looks like they're price reduced right now.

Both units are OK. There are many versions of X431 out there and it can be confusing, but they are all running the same software. So you won’t go wrong with any of the units….

In addition to the two Porsches (Macan and 718 Cayman) I also have a BMW X2 and a Volvo XC90… I have used the X431 extensively on all my cars. Excellent tool to diagnose issues and also had replaced all brakes in all my cars, except the Cayman. Very useful tool.

This is the one I have….
LAUNCH X431 PRO3S+ Full Bi-Directional Car Diagnostic Scanner,ECU Coding,Key IMMO,AutoAuth,OEM All System & 31+ Service Automotive Scan Tool for All Cars[Upgrade Version] https://a.co/d/aTUaAJ4
I saw that unit referenced in one of the questions on Amazon. The response from the seller was the difference in cost was because of the screen size - 10" vs 8". I also think it has a larger battery. So basically they all run the same OS and the same software. Hmmm.

I've been researching the x431 and the Autel models. Do either of you see appreciable differences between them. I also went to the Launch web site and do not see the models offered on Amazon on their site. Thought this is odd. Are these models offered on Amazon ( also the models you both seems to be utilizing) - are they some kind of knock-off or Chinese imitation? Here's the Launch web site.

I just received my x431. I have to say this is a nice piece of kit. Really well packaged and nothing about it seems flimsy or cheap. I like how the bluetooth OBD connector stores in the unit too. It also came with the TPMS scanner/reader. Hopefully it performs as well as it looks. This is what's in the box.

Has anyone tried, successfully, changing the reverse camera off speed? It is set to 35KPH (22MPH) and I am trying to get it set to 10KPH. Everything I try gives me a "Write Code Failed".
I tried Brush Hidden/Modified and Rule Coding without success.
I thought I read the reverse camera turned off at 10mph.

Someone posts something like “I received my new Launch X-431 Pro v.4” and I just think they’re an idiot who never learned how to write. If you’re going to post such a thing, explain what you’re talking about. The point of writing is to communicate and if you fail to do so you’re missing the point. BTW, I have a Launch X-431 Pro v.4. It’s a sex robot. I highly recommend the battery upgrade as it can’t keep up without it.
For a poster condemning another for writing what they believe is an incoherent post, you've managed to write the most incoherent and useless post I've had the misfortune of reading here in these forums. Nice work!

I am not sure what speed mine actually turns off at but it is way too fast. In any event, whatever this parameter does, I can't change it. I will look thru the PCM item list and see if there is something there to turn the reverse camera display off.

I am not sure, but the Init Value may be the initial value of the speed that's needed to be obtained to turn it off after being activated. The first line of code may be the state it's always in until put into reverse. I'll check my car when I get the chance to see what parameters are in those fields then I'll also see what speed is needed to be obtained to turn it off. I'll also verify what I said earlier about pushing any of the buttons on the PCM to defeat the camera on state.

Reading your post more closely, you are asking only about the aural warning, but it seems you still want to see the actual warning in the screen? The overhead button deactivates the whole proximity radar system (aural and visual).

It will disable them and keep them disabled until the next time the car is started. Sounds like Mr. Mitchell wants them off permanently so he doesn't get them when backing out of his garage after starting up the car. ;) I personally don't mind them and I also think the chime sound can be lowered in the menu settings. Though not positive on this.

I sent an email to Launch about that. They said the X431's response is exactly the same as the "Factory" system (I assume PIWIS) and Porsche probably won't let you change it. I don't know if I believe that but there is nothing I can do other than live with it.

As a side note, one reason I bought the X431 is my late model Toyota Highlander was recently rear-ended and a parking sensor damaged. The "approved" shop wants $820 for vehicle diagnostics/turning off the sensor fault. I could not believe it but that is what they charge for driving it to Toyota and having Toyota turn off the fault. I am going to another shop that said if I want to drive it to Toyota and have them turn it off they would give me the $820. The X431 was less than that on Amazon so I bought it. But it does not find the sensor fault. So the X431 might be going back.
My unit is down in the garage, so can't check it atm, but there are "software modules" that can be purchased to add other features. IDK if there's one for your Toyota proximity sensors. You access those thru the mall. The link for that is in the program.

I actually like that this thing also acts as a handheld computer allowing access to the net. If you have a code you can click on a button below the code and it will perform a search on the net. The results are SOMETIMES helpful lol

I took my first plunge into "coding" some changes. I did the teardrop wipe, comfort entry seat parameter and the spoiler deploy speed. Have any of you discovered how to enable the LED on the center console to illuminate when the spoiler is deployed automatically when driving?

I also noticed some differences in the menu options compared to what you both have been displaying in your posts when trying to locate component parameters. Not sure if it's just me not reading things correctly, a difference in software versions or something else. I'll have to get back to my car and garage to be more specific. That's for later :)

I've made a few parameter changes using the Launch, but what's made the price of entry totally worth it is changing the seat comfort entry and exit memory setting to extend the seat farther back when exiting the car. I set it at 45mm (1 3/4") vs 1". I did this to both cars and man it makes getting in and out some much nicer. No need to pull may knee up to my armpit to get my foot over the sill when getting out. Should save some wear and tear on the seat bolsters too. I can also get in the car the way Motorman does - plopping my butt down and then swiveling in. More leg room to do that because the seat is father back.

This is what frustrates me as a PCA member is that communications are all one way from the PCA to me. I have no way of finding local PCA members unless I sign up super quickly for events that fill up way too rapidly and hope to meet the right people at an event. There isn't a way to chat with my local (Golden Gate) PCA members or post a "does anyone have a x431 coding tablet that I could use?". Or am I being stupid and missed something with the PCA?
(sorry for straying off-topic)
Are Cars & Coffee or similar events on your PCA calendar? Those are not limited participation events and where you can meet and speak with members intimately.

I haven't tried in my Boxster, but tried to code the gauges to always be illuminated in my 911 and though I get successful coding, they don't illuminate when the lights are not on. Not sure what the issue may be.
