Hi All,

This looks like a great solution for many. So well done to all who have supported it. In my case, I am lucky to have a car that came with Nav/Carplay, and I do not use Android. I used the PIWIS approach (PIWIS 3 Coding Retrofit and Feature Request - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums) to enable Wifi on my car as it did not have that. After that I was able to connect to the Wifi with my phone, and I was able to connect to the track precision app while on the Wifi, but I get the following error:

I see when reading through this thread that some others had Wifi enabled successfully but were unable to get track precision to work. Just posting here to see if anyone had figured this out? Does the MIB Mod do more than just enabling Wifi (which I seem to have already done)? Is there something else it does beyond enabling Wifi to enabled the Track Presicion to work? I am reluctant to run the patch for just this, but would do it if it seems it would do more that what I have already done with coding. I should say that I am in Australia with a '17 BS. I believe there was no Porsche connect available locally at the time. I was wondering whether the Track Precision app just recognized that my model never had Wifi and locked it out?

Cheers!

Yes MIB does much more than just enable WiFi if you use the AIO version, with an older manual version of MIB you could pick and choose what to enable... beside didn't you say that you already enabled it?

As for track precision I might have missed this, but does your 2017 BS have Sports Chono?, IIRC this also required for Track Precision App. The PTPA would not be preventing proper operation based on the previous WiFi status in the vehicle.
I forgot to mention that I have sports chrono. I have nav. My car was not enabled for Wifi because I guess the Australian market did not have any infrustructure for Porsche connect at that time. Also my PCM does not have the SIM socket. I successfully enabled Wifi using the PIWIS approach (but done with an X431). I can connect to the Wifi on my phone and run the track precision app. It sees my car and correctly identifies the model and the VIN..... but it then comes up with the error I screenshotted above. It seems although it can communicate with the app, it has some back end thing that has disabled it from connecting to my car. I am just unsure if it is something the app found in my car (that can be changed) that made it not support it... or that the app has just blacklisted my VIN as being from an unsupported model?

I have no reason to run MIB (as I already have everything working I want)... except if it would do something extra when enabling the Wifi that the PIWIS approach does not do. Then it may be worthwhile for me to do. Is there any reason to run MIB if you already have carplay (and are an apple phone user), Nav etc.?

No need to run MAIO/MIB if your CP and WiFi is working... I would like to confirm, are you talking about the Porsche track timing app or the Porsche Connect functions?
Thanks for your help!

I am talking about the track precision app. I think the Porsche connect requires a subscription and I am not interested in the features it has anyway. I just wanted to get the track precision working. On the rennlist thread on PIWIS, several people have enabled wifi and gotten the precision app working. I did the same to mine and Wifi works, but I get the error above in the track precision app. I can't workout if the app has my car black listed... or there is something in my car that is not enabled correctly for it to work. It is possible MIB may do something slightly different to the PIWIS method and it may work, in which case I would do the MIB... but it seems equally likely I would get the same outcome I have now and I prefer not to go to the trouble for that.

That is my understanding also. I will try again with cellular data disabled. It was clear to me the app was able to connect to my car to get the VIN (and year model). The error message I got had me wondering if it decided that australian delivered 718s from that year were disabled from the app since none supported wifi. I will try again and see what happens.

Thanks again.

Thanks for your help @Westcoaster!

So here are the step I go through. I may be doing something wrong.

First I enable the Wifi in the car (Phone->OPT->Wifi Settings):

Then I put my phone into Airplane mode and then select the Porsche Wifi (Not I have custom SSID I set in the Wifi Settings):

Image

I deleted teh app and started this again. I started the app (first time since installation), go through the allows for iOS. Then I get to the connect to car button and I get this:

Image

It is clearly connected, as it knows my car model and the VIN (which I removed the final numbers). All looking good so far. I add the vehicle and get back to the connect screen and the connect button now say "Not Available", and when I press it I get this:

Image

I force the track prescion app closed and restart it and I get this:

Image

Note that the banner at the top of the screen says teh connection has been established, but the "not available" is in the button again.

So I believe the Wifi is connected. But either my car has a setting it does not like, or the app has my VIN black listed and will not talk to it? Is it possible my custom SSID is causing an issue?

Thanks again!!

Cheers!

With the X431, the cheapest version I am aware of that does all the features here is the CRP919E or CRP919X. Should be available for <US$400. I use the CRP919E to do coding on my 718.

Coding could probably be detected by dealer if they were for some reason inclined to look for it.... but it is also easy to revert coding back to what it was if this concerns you. Just record any changes you make.

Hi Vosadrian
Were you able to make the PTP app works?
Im having the same problem than you
Thanks in advance
Hi @sanher747

Unfortuantely I never worked this out... but I never tried anything further than details here. It just did not seem it was worth the effort to put the time into it. I was able to get the Wifi on my car connected to my phone and the PTP app could see my car, but it appeared to be a back end problem where my VIN is blacklisted or something so the app would not go further. I never tried the PCM updates in this thread as my car already has all the features I want enabled in the PCM, so I did not want to risk this process for no real benefit. Let me know if you work something out.

@vosadrian This is strange, I have never heard of this, especially not a blacklist of VIN's! Please refresh my memory as to the year and model of 718 you have. I know of lots of people that have PTPA working on the 718.

Did you 718 come with OEM NAV?

Cheers
Hi @Westcoaster

All details are here: Link

My car is an Australian delivered 2017 Boxster S. Note at this time in Australia, Porsche Connect was not available and Wifi and everything was disabled on my car (as no Porsche Connect). I used my X431 to code the Wifi to work, and as you can see in the post linked above, the PTPA can see the car over the Wifi and see the VIN, but goes to a page telling me to contact my dealer as my car is not enabled. Even once the car is added to the app and you restart it, it shows the car connected but the button to start the connection says NOT AVAILABLE. It seems for some reason either the version of the PCM is not support by PTPA or my VIN is not enabled and is blacklisted or something like that.

Not a big deal as I don't see a real use for the app for me anyway (I don't use the car on track) and was just looking to use it for fun to play with it and see what it does.

Cheers!

I recall that post, but will now assume that you do NOT have OEM NAV.

OEM NAV has to be enabled for PTPA to work.
I do have OEM Nav. My car is pretty much fully loaded with all the stuff related to this. It came with OEM Nav (including display in guage), Sports Chrono, Apple Carplay etc. The PCM SW and Nav maps were updated by Porsche to latest (for my HW) in late 2020. The Wifi was not enabled standard as the first models in Australia (2016-17) did not have PTPA or Porsche Connect offered, so there was no use for the Wifi so they coded Wifi off. I changed the coding to turn it on. So in theory my car has all the features required for PTPA, but PTPA just does not like my car for some reason!

I'm using the LAUNCH X431 for coding. I did not specific coding for PTPA. My coding was only to enable the Wifi and that worked as expected (as in the Wifi works and I can see it and connect to it and the options for setting it in the PCM are now there). I wonder whether the app gets a read on my VIN and recognizes it as an early Australian VIN (from the VIN being in a range for earlier than 2018 Australia) and then just decides that those cars do not support PTPA. Not a big deal really as I don;t track my car anyway. I was just bored and wanted to see how it worked!

Still @sanher747 is in the US and he is having the same problem, so to me it seems like a piece or enable is missing somewhere.
True... could be. If @sanher747 does the PCM upgrade in this thread and the issue goes away, I would assume that it is doing more coding than what I have done. Over on Rennlist, others (on 911s) were able to get Wifi going which then enabled PTPA for them using the same coding as me (I followed a guide for PIWIS, but found all the same coding items in that guide with my X431). My coding did everything as expected (menu items for selecting came up etc.) but the PTPA just did not work. It is possible there is a coding value somewhere that has an effect on this and I am unlucky my car has it disabled when others have it enabled so don't need to change it.

I was reluctant to do the PCM upgrade in this thread as I already have everything I need/want except the PTPA and I don't really need that anyway.

Hello Vos Adrián

I have the same issue than you with the PTPA, but in my case, I had spec of SC, Naviagtion, Connect Plus (WLAN CarPlay....) So basically all the requiremets needed to run the app, BUT my car was build before wk46/2016, so as per app reading, It IS not supported.
I need to try the coding showed in the " x431 718 coding guide" with the Thinkdiag+
But I have low confidence, and I am afraid we Will need to run the MIB AIO to add the PTPA support to the PCM besides the WLAN
Keep me updated. I have not done anythihg more myself. If I knew MIB AIO would work I would give it a go... but I had no other need for anything in that, so was hesitant to try it since everything else is working as I like.
