I see the toolkit listed as a $403 option in the configurator

 

The tool kit shown in the US configurator isn't what we get here in Europe. I assume you also have the basic tools that come in that plastic bit clipped into the frunk. It's the basic stuff all VAG come with, a screw driver, toe hook etc.

The tool kit for 408 is a leather case with extra spanners etc.

 

I see that as well. Every Mercedes, Audi, VW and BMW that I’ve purchased since 1977 came with a tool kit.

 

The Warning Triangle was all that came with mine (uk).

No triangle, no first aid kit, but it did come with the trunk tool kit with screwdriver, wrench, and headlight adjustment tool.

If you do European delivery the triangle and first aid kit will be in the car but you must remove them and take them home in your luggage. Otherwise they will be removed before the vehicle leaves Germany. Also had to buy a safety vest which if you drive in Austria must be in the car not the trunk.

 

I purchase all three separate for a total price of $14.98
screwdriver, wrench, and 5mm headlight adjustment tool.

 

2021 base 718. There was no triangle or first aid kit (not expected in the US market).
Tool kit (clipped in the frunk left side) includes the spline key for the wheel lug locks, tow hook, a screwdriver (phillips and slot head, one size of each), and open end wrench (10 and 12mm, if I had to guess you will only ever use the 10mm), and a strange l-shaped injection molded plastic tool with a hex and a strange spline key and some sort of half-hollow cylinder key.

Tire goo kit (clipped in the frunk right side).

Air compressor under the cowl (not pictured).

What is the "strange l-shaped injection molded plastic tool with a hex and a strange spline key and some sort of half-hollow cylinder key" used for? I don't have one in my tool kit.

The strange... is an emergency raise/lower tool for the cabriolet top. If you have a Cayman, you don't have the "strange tool". Also, next to that tool is an emergency gear shift lever unlock tool that looks like a plastic wedge for removing trim pieces.

 

Thanks. That's why I don't have it then. Is the gear shift unlock tool manual or PDK specific?

 

In my old age my tool kit is a roadside assistance number and a credit card. The same kit works for my cars and my motorcycle.

 

sorry photo upload isn't working the way it did a few days ago.

 

It almost appears that the screwdriver would fit in the hollow side to make a longer crank handle - but it doesn't. One end of the L shaped tool has a male hex shape and the other is a strange assymmetrical star.

OK I give up it loaded the same photo twice.

 

I bought a wheel alignment stud on amazon and it more or less fits underneath the screwdriver box in the toolkit, there's no place else it would go. Not that having it in the car helps without a jack but at least the tool with the correct M14x1.5 thread stays with the car.

 

It has already been answered, but here it is again... that strange tool is for emergency operation of the convertible top (Boxster only).

 

There is only 1 part in my tool kit not described in the Porsche good to know app. I must assume the wedge shaped part is for removing the trim.

 

OK the only mystery we haven't solved is the round hole next to the screwdriver in the rectangular inner box looks like it should hold something else...

 

IIRC, the hole on the top RHS of the picture, directly above the plastic tool box is part of the securing 'mechanism'.

What I don't see in my kit, which was mentioned earlier, is the headlight adjustment tool.
