My dealer told me last month that he should be able to get an allocation and expect delivery in between 8-10mths for a 718 Cayman including Style Edition - which is what i specifically enquired about. He did add that the time could be extended but this is the timescale that they have been quoted by Porsche.

I asked my UK dealer what delivery would be if I ordered a new Boxster GTS. I was told "during 2024".

A quick summary of what is LIKELY the realistic 718 timeline based on substantiated information:

  • Base/S/T 718 Cayster through the model year 2024 including variant editions of all of those.
  • GTS 718 4.0 Cayster through the model year 2024
  • GT4RS 718 through model year 2024
  • GT4/Spyder 718 through model year 2023 then EOL.
  • Potential Spyder RS variant TBD (Not officially announced)
  • All 718s could go EOL at end of MY2024, but no firm confirmation, only speculation.

Much car model development is based on the assumption that the market will love EVs. Porsche are killing the ICE Boxster and Cayman on this unproven assumption. In the UK the installation of EV charging points is running far to slowly for the "end of ICE" to happen as planned. So manufacturers will have a massive sales downturn between 2025 and 2030. My feeling is that Model Year 2024 718s will continue to be available until closer to 2030.

I'm not anti EVs, they do many things well, but they are not a long term universal solution. As of end January power supply industry is reported to be fitting 1 fast EV charger for 83 EVs sold, far to few given a sizable percentage of car owners have no prospect of home chargers.

I encountered similar rumors back in 2019 when the only reason was that most dealers had to close their order books because they already filled all of the allocations they rec'd. Many people just aren't used to how Porsche schedules their manufacturing not just down to model but down to trim levels and options as well. It's like a hybrid of boutique and mass production manufacturing.

Not so much consumer sentiment as it is compliance with new incredibly restrictive regulations like Euro 7 and the such. These are the same regulations that will prevent current cars from being built as long as you state. Euro 7 goes into effect July 1, 2025, which is why you see 2025 as a target date for a lot of electrification initiatives. Automakers critical of EU's new Euro 7 pollution rules

It will be interesting to see if Euro 7 is ratified by all EU countries. If it is, then there will be very few new cars built in Europe and the French Italian, Spanish, Czech UK German Governments fully understand the economic consequences of that. EVs are only part of Euro 7, it requires to be capable of autonomous control and lots of other safety related technology. Even Tesla questions their ability to achieve what is expected.
Some of the NGOs advising the EU on Euro 7 are believed to actually want to see the end of car travel, but dare not actually say so.

There’s a quote that I remember that has been scrubbed from the internet so I can’t properly attribute it:

”A walking population is easier to control.”

If anyone can actually find it, post the author.

It also seeks to regulate emissions from tires and brakes.

No doubt it will get watered down a bit. But, I fully expect it to have a very significant impact on what is available post-2025 in the automotive context.

So, come late 2024, stock up boys and girls on brake pads, discs, and tires.

(Long term storage of tires is problematic. But, doable.)

the item I've been aware of is removing copper from brake friction material - as this contaminates groundwater run-off from the roads

this had surfaced in the past couple of years as I recall OEMS (GM) had stop sale for CA market on some models as the brake pads didn't comply with the no-copper regulation

That’s already a done deal. It’s why PCCBs after October 31st 2020 are no longer (almost-completely) dustless.

Euro 7 will clamp down further on “emissions.”

Read a comment on Reddit from this user that recently went into the dealership to learn from them that there won't be anymore ICE 718s:

Awesome. Lucky. I have been trying to get an allocation, but Porsche just told me the caymans are done. No more orders until the electric cars are released!

Yup I went to the dealership yesterday. They found out Friday! No more ICE cayman. No more orders. The value of your car just went up 10%!

Can anyone else confirm/comment?
I was at my dealership on Feb. 7 to pick up my Cayman (had service done), and spoke to my salesman about ordering a GTS. He told me that the base, S, and T would no longer be made, but the GTS, GT4 and GT4 RS would continue to be made. At this point, allocations for a GTS have less waiting time than a GT4.

What about the style editions? They are 2 liter cars.

Well that’s wrong because the Style Edition will be available and is based on the ones you said won’t be built.

You are spot on with the last sentence. It's all about control. One size does not fit all, that is my internal compass for BS detection.

Depends on a few matters.
1, The dealer may feel their order book is full based on current and past allocation and their opinion it’s a waste of time taking another order.
2. The model. 718 Style Edition Boxster or Cayman may still be possible. GT4 RS, some dealers will get more.
