There care a few things above I would love to have. A major example is having the A/C system always restart exactly where it was set when the car was shutdown. Other nice to have functions are the washer teardrop feature, 5 turn signal flashes as three is never enough if start turn signals a few seconds before changing lanes, and opening either the front or rear trunk does not unlock the car. However, collectively I do feel good spending circa $800 plus the time, especially, needed to invent what to do, then probably never use the thing again. I have not used them but there are some BMW associated businesses, for a reasonable albeit expensive fee, will send a preprogrammed laptop to make the coding changes (and then the laptop must be returned). I would take advantage of something like that for my Boxster as it gets very old having to dick with the A/C controls every time I get into the car.

Agree. Memory package does save AC settings in key.
I do have the memory package but it only saves the specific settings in effect at the time the settings are saved. It does not cause the system to retain the settings when the car was last shut down. In my experience, the probability is ultra high the desired setting will be the same settings last used so just about every time I start the car I have to fiddle with it (temperature setpoint, recirc, and seat ventilation). It is not much to do as it is all button pushes but it would be nice if it just simply returned to what I last used as our BMW X3 does. Interestingly, it does retain these settings for a few minutes but filling the tank is long enough for it to reset to the memorized settings.

I'm curious if

I'm curious if changing to Driver Memory now saves your last Recirc setting? I changed my 2023 Boxster to Driver Memory and now my temp, AC and fan settings auto save to the last settings used, but Recirc does not. With AC on, I always set Recirc to on and now I have to hit the Recirc button every time I start the car. I may try the Basis mode...
A few days ago, by coincidence wrt to this discussion, I went through all the available settings and even found a few that explained some bad behaviors I previously noticed, like the seat not automatically moving forward/back to facilitate getting in/out of the car. However, I did not see anything like "Driver Memory". Please explain how to access this option as I would like to try what you suggest.

I did find and code the tear drop wipe feature but it simply doesn't do the follow up wipe after I run a windshield wash cycle. Not sure why, but I did verify it is enabled.
I easily activated the tear drop wipe last Wednesday night. When I test drove the car that night, I used up a lot of washer fluid trying to determine why it mostly did not work. I thought maybe there might be speed thresholds affecting activation/deactivation but that did not appear to be the case. The next day, about 15 hours after coding this function, I made a 150-mile round trip, and it was still unreliable but worked much more frequently than it did the night before. Today, 4 days later, I made a number of local trips, and it worked 100% of the time. Only more time will tell if it remains reliable or today was just a fluke. I did read something a week or so ago about some feature that was documented to not activate until three days after coding it. I cannot remember what that was and I have no clue why that would be the case but maybe that is also the issue with the tear drop wipe coding.

I am using a Launch X431 CR919E and it is really an excellent machine. BUT, be aware, per a call with Launchtechusa, the CR919E is a European model and Launchtechusa will not, in any way, provide even the slightest bit of support. Although they were friendly/polite, they refused to answer a basic question I am certain the tech I spoke to knew and could have very quickly answered. It was very clear to me Launchtechusa was pissed at Amazon for selling the non-USA models so relatively inexpensively. The only support available for this model is some funky Chinese email address and I have little confidence they will be a viable source of support and after two years they will continue to support it with Updates. To be fair, the Amazon page does have a clear comment it will not be supported by Lunchtechusa, but it is buried in the part of the page with the detailed photographs. Since I already researched the device, I made the mistake of seeing no reason to read the text adjacent to the pictures. It is returnable but I will probably keep it since I already used it, impressed with how well it works, and really do not want to spend about $200 more for the Millennium which I think is the domestic equivalent. I already successfully programmed six items so returning it now would be akin to those that buy a suit/dress off the rack, wear it to an occasion, then return it for a refund. The CR919E is cheap, relatively speaking, but without dependable support you are indeed getting what you pay for no matter good the device.

Also, the only method I can find so far to transfer a report or a photo to a PC, is to 'Share' it which means email it. It does this and even states the email was successfully sent but nothing is received (and it is not in my Bulk or spam folder). On Friday I sent an email to the support address Amazon provided in the description so I will see Monday if I get any meaningful support.

I just got home and tried sending a report to a Gmail address I rarely use. It was almost immediately received although the email only included a download link that did quickly provide the report. I do not know why Gmail works and my bellsouth.net email does not, but at least I can now save and print a hard copy.

REVISED 3/8/25 - See Item 10 Intersection Assistant

Last week I saw another recent thread here with a video about the Launch X431 CRP919E and a reference to the Coding Guide Version 2. I was sufficiently impressed with the Coding Guide and price of the CRP919E to realize I had the confidence, I did not previously have, to code a number of items I wanted changed for a number of years. So, I ordered the CRP919E. Over the past week I successfully modified nine items, without any issues or drama. I did carefully read through everything first to familiarize myself with what needed to be done and convince myself each modified parameter made sense and even to what values I was going to use. I also started with a few very simple items that would not likely be catastrophic if I made an error. I highly suggest anyone that does not regularly poke their fingers into this nether region of their car do the same thing. Below is a table of what I coded, and everything actually worked as advertised after I recoded it! The EBD works great (according to my GF behind me when I tested it) but I intentionally did not enable the four-way flashers. Also, as I previously posted, be aware the CRP919E is not intended for the US market, and you will get ZERO support from Launchtechusa. I was going to return it because of this but it works so well I decided to keep it. I cannot end without again seriously thanking the guys that put together the Coding Guide!!!!!

Just some thoughts. This has become a very large thread, with a treasure trove of excellent useful information. Unfortunately, realistically, much of this great stuff is effectively lost because of the difficulty/time/etc. of going through now 1,704 messages and 86 pages (and still growing). In other words, the obvious success of this thread has, to a very large extent IMO, become its enemy. So, maybe a new forum, in the "2017+ Porsche 718 Tech And Performance Section", simply titled "Coding", might better serve everyone's needs. I am thinking, with a dedicated forum category, each specific question or topic might get its own thread, making it easier and more effective to cull through the wealth of information one specifically has an interest in.

For example, I posted message number 1668, about my experience coding my car and included a table of what I did. I just ran into a problem coding an item I did not previously include in this table. I think others should know about this problem because, for a while, I thought I might have damaged the headlight system and might be looking at a very expensive repair. I eventually solved that problem, and I think others might want to know what the fix is (I certainly did before I eventually figured it out 24 hours later, with a lot of relief). I just revised that table, 36 messages ago, but now, it is effectively mostly 'hidden', two (soon to be more) pages back. If there was a separate forum category, I would have posted a message titled "Don't Do This! - But, If you Do..." and that would make my unpleasant experience much more visible. A dedicated forum on this specific topic would make looking through the thread titles for specific information a lot more practical than reading now over 1,700 messages.

I think this is an example of what @Barryng is thinking.
It is indeed exactly what I am thinking. The guide is a truly outstanding and indispensable source of information that virtually everyone is very glad to have (and that certainly includes me). I would absolutely not have embarked on this coding adventure had it not been for version 2 of the guide. It has been something I wanted to do for a number of years. The guide is THE thing that had the explanations, details, and credibility to give me the confidence to take the dive. The suggestion I made above addresses much more than just the information available in the guide as the many posts preceding this one discuss a lot of stuff extra to the guide, including late breaking findings. Since the guide has to be revised when appropriate and then posted in a message somewhere announcing its release, recent findings etc. get more timely visibility here in a post than is reasonably possible via a revision and repost of the guide.

For all Canadian brothers and sisters. Check this deal on Amazon. I just bought the LAUNCH X431 CRP919X Elite CANFD & DOIP Diagnostic Tool, 2025 ECU Coding, FCA AutoAuth, Bidirectional Scan Tool, V.A.G Guided, 35+ Reset, All Systems Diagnostic Scanner, 150+ Brands Car Scanner

$121 off on my app.

I do not know if being in Canada effects the Amazon price but, right now, it is being shown on Amazon for $372, the same price I paid a month or so ago. That is a lot less than the $609 in the link provided. $465.00 is shown as the List Price but, at least for the past month or so, it has sat at $372.00 ("Limited Time Offer").

Be aware, the CRP919E is not approved by Launch for sale in the US (and maybe Canada too) and you will get absolutely zero support from Launch Tech USA. However, this is stated on the Amazon page, and they provide a funky support email address. I sent two emails to that (China I suspect) email with questions, and one was ignored (caveat emptor). However, the CRP919E works so well I decided not to return it and keep it. It really is an excellent machine. I do have a concern in two years what the cost will be to continue to keep it updated, or even if that will be possible, but I clearly decided to worry about that then, not now.

No one drives manual car in neutral rolling downhill.
A number of the new driver manuals I have seen over a lot of years firmly state it is not safe to coast in neutral downhill. Having driven on a bunch of occasions through the mountains on I75 etc., I have to agree with this! I can imagine the horrible abuse idling down a hill and trying to maintain a reasonable speed must be on the brakes.

Is this how it works?
That is exactly what I understand.

The real question is how much will the new subscription cost and/or will it even be available as there is no support for it in the US? When I spoke with Launch Tech USA, they were certainly polite and reasonable to talk to, but the tech I spoke to made it crystal clear they will no way no how provide any support. I also got clear vibes they were very unhappy with Amazon selling these items in the US and would stop them from doing so if they could.

I decided to keep the device only because it does work so well and appears to be so well designed. Messing around in the very private regions of my very expensive piece of machinery is something I wanted to do for a long time. Previously, I did not at all have the confidence to be willing to undertake the risk. The truly outstanding user's guide V2 and the relatively very reasonable cost of the CRP9169E, combined to allow me to take this step. So, maybe trashing a $400 instrument in two years, I decided, was worth the price to code the items that have been on my mind for a long time, at a level of confidence that became acceptable to me. Also, at this time, two years is a long way away, so to speak.

U can always downshift and leave the car in a lower gear and higher rpm which will not hurt the engine at all.
The transmission is not in neutral, so the engine is still connected to the drive train through fully engaged clutch(es), so no clutch is slipping and wearing at an undue rate. Modern transmission control systems seem to almost always do an excellent job picking the appropriate gear for the conditions. I can easily see using the paddles to maybe downshift a gear to increase engine breaking going downhill. However, I just don't get why one would use paddles to upshift a modern automatic transmission to a higher gear and lose the safety of the designers intended engine braking. This just seriously abuses the brakes, is not consistent with the intended equipment design, and is likely to get the brakes too hot to do their job if you need them.

Also, I have seen opinions over the years, I do indeed agree with, downshifting, is not harmful. The energy, that must be dissipated by the engine, is well within the cooling system capacity and, assuming the downshift was not too excessive, RPM is also not at all a concern. It is my strong opinion we should let the well-designed machinery do the job it was designed to do. It has been my experience on multiple occasions, humans, almost always, do not know more than a modern control system and significantly increase the risk of making an error or damaging something when the human think it knows more than the control system. This is exactly the reasons, in the aircraft industry, pilots are required to use the automation in various phases of the flight. Upshift an automatic transmission going downhill, or even worse, disengaging the gear box going downhill, is very unintuitive and dangerous.

Funny how I clicked on the item again 5 mins ago and saw a flash sale which brings the price down further to CAD$413. So naturally I went ahead and buy again and cancelled the previous order.
I noticed that Amazon has more than one page for the CRP919E with different prices. I do not know why. See:

As much as I would love to have that instrument cluster, the price is just way too high for something that is only a nice to have thing. It would not change the quality of the enjoyment I get from the car and with respect to functionality, certainly not even close to $1,500 worth.

It rained today so I tested the auto lights on feature. It works exactly as described above in my 2019 Boxster. A handful of seconds after the rain started, with the light switch in Auto, the headlights automatically switched on. Also, while raining, I turned the switch from Auto to hard on for a short time then back to Auto and they stayed on even though it was sufficiently light enough to expect them to turn off in Auto. The lights did not initially come on when I was getting intermittent wipes during the very brief period of light rain that preceded the much heavier rain. However, the light rain was very brief so I do not know if intermittent wiping will trigger it.

This is not an item I coded or was previously even aware of. This behavior is native to the car as it came from the factory. Even if it is codable, I do not think I would bother to activate it because rainy days, even when not actually raining, are overcast gray to some degree of darkness. So, I just turn on the headlights on these types of days anyway even though it might not be raining as I think the additional 'be seen' factor just reduces risk.
