Just want to make sure I don’t screw mine up… did you change that random code? Or did you go in and out?
No I didn’t change anything from the random codes I changed from brush hidden
I just need a screenshot from the exterior light parameter and coding value radom codes. You just have to go there take a photo and then press cancel and you will not change anything. This is also good as backup because if you fucked it up something during coding you can go there and check if these codes are the same when got the photo.
For example if you your random code for the exterior light parameter and then you change the one touch option to 2 you will see that your actual random code is different than previous and if you change this code to your previous random code. The onetouch will change from 2 to the times you had before

I keep forgetting to dig into this when I have the time. Since I don't have the LVDS cable for my car, it doesn't hit my radar when I have the car handy. Maybe if I had a cable for my car I'd remember to look into it. Keep prodding me occasionally, folks.
@Arne, any chance you're in a slightly warmer climate than I am here in NH and are getting ready to pull your car out of storage? I checked for this again last week and can't find it anywhere. Would love a second set of eyes on it!

I purchased this one and it can code

Launch X431 CRP919X OBD2 Scanner:... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FPDPN92?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@audisurge can I just confirm that the unit you purchased above can do all the coding people are doing in this thread? It seems to be the cheapest device I can find if it can do it. Seems to be on a pretty good special on Aliexpress. I think the CRP919X and CRP919E are similar devices, but maybe different regional devices? I know there is a version that is cheaper and locked to EU IP addresses, but difficult to find out much info on exact differences between these two devices.

@vosadrian Yes, I've done some of the changes listed in the thread. Spoiler deployment speed, changed the auto stop/start, changed comfort blinkers, I haven't tried the other ones but since I was able to do the ones I listed, I don't see why I wouldn't be able to do the other ones

I just ordered a CRP919E. It has the same specs for ECU coding as the CRP 919X used by @audisurge . I was able to take advantage of a 20% off code on ebay with free delivery. Will cost about US$315 delivered which seems about as cheap as you can get into an X431 with coding locally in Australia. Will report back when I get to try it out. Should get it in about a week. Is there any Porsche coding user guide? It looks like have to get into the "code/brush hiding" selection to do the coding? And to record any values before I change them.

Got the 919x as a daily deal and played with it today. If you're tablet proficient with windows or mac, the hardest part is the 104 files that needed to be updated along with charging it fully before use. Make sure the key is INSIDE the vehicle or it won't connect properly.

This thread is the closest thing I've seen to a coding guide. I take screenshots of anything I am going to change, both before and after.

What are the options if we don’t want one of the “tools” (the android tablets)? I’ve coded past BMWs using an OBD2-to-Ethernet cable with coding software on a laptop.

Do you happen to have a source for cable and software?

I assume you are referring to ESys, which I did as well. Here I think you buy a Launch device (or some other similar device) or buy a PIWIS license, which I believe is more expensive, and in German (based on images and comments here).

A [Launch Noob] question I have is this - when coding, do you press "write code" on each screen you make a change, or do you make all the changes you want on the various screens and then write once at the end? After backing up of course.

Yep that’s it esys. That sounds closest to PIWIS. Have you seen anywhere to get hardware/cable and software here?

Esys was pretty easy to acquire and oftentimes was provided alongside the cable but it was also out there to be found.

I have seen a couple mentions here but i think @santirx ditched the piwis for the launch, because it was more logical to use i think i read.
I have both X431 and PIWIS III. I use X431 more often due to ease of use. But PIWIS has its specific uses and some that I won’t trust X431. In example, when I swapped my Macan headlights from BiXenon to LEDs, headlight commissioning and module coding can only be done with PIWIS. When I replaced my air suspension compressor and rear suspension air bag, I refilled and recalibrated with PIWIS… would not trust X431 for that. Also when I lowered the stance of my Macan by 30mm.

If you screw up coding with X431 and can’t go back, PIWIS module auto coding will fix it…

So, I have not abandoned PIWIS… safely stowed for the horsepower that X431 can’t provide…😊

I do prefer X431 for coding because in PIWIS language is set to German when coding and hence more difficult if German is not a known language. Language in X431 for coding is English.

I believe there are no "near" free options for Porsche like there are for BMW. I think you are spending ~$1000 to get going with PIWIS (you have to basically buy a laptop with it installed). But you can get Launch systems capable of doing the coding from around $400.

If you just want to twiddle a few settings, Launch seems like the best option. If you want to do more extensive changes that require coding (PASM suspension or headlight system upgrades etc.), then probably go PIWIS.

That's my take on this as well. Launch has one additional advantage, in that it will probably work for most other non-Porsche cars as well. I used mine to clear a spurious air bag sensor code on my wife's Audi just the other day.

I looked at the economics of the purchase of Launch differently. I was going to install [pay to install] the auto start/stop disable module ~$230. I was also going to install the Soft Top module - ~$350. Add installation and someone potentially mucking up my new GTS.... To me, all that paid for the Launch and I got a good tool which allows me to play with some other stuff AND watch the health of my car. I'm money ahead.

So I did not get Navi in my GTS 4.0. I use CarPlay (with a wireless adapter). One loss for me is to be able to set the time from the GPS. Are there specific settings to enable this? (Yea I know I can do the upgrade see elsewhere here...)

Just got my CRP919E. It seems to have the coding capability. Just a quick question before I start changing things. There seems to be an option to backup the configuration which I used and then tried a second time and it said I was overwriting the original. It seems easy to lose the saved configuration. Is there a way to save this permanently so I can come back to it if I need to in future. Can I get a copy of the file off the launch device to store somewhere safe?

Just reiterating the question above. I have started making some changes (with success!), and I am screen shotting every screen before I change it so I have a way to set it back to original. There does appear to be some ability on the X431 to store all coding data. I can't remember if this is for the specific module... or all coding in the car? Anyway, it seems to store just one state saved, and I have not been able to work out a way to get the file off the X431 to backup elsewhere in case I lose/damage my X431. I have also not tried the recovery process from the backup.

So does anyone understand how the X431 works in terms of the backup of coding information and the recovery of this information. I think it would be great to have this information in this thread to save people inadvertantly changing options they did not intend to by having a method to recover to a known good state.

Also, I presume this thread is the best source of 718 coding info on the Web. But I find you have to brwose the entire thread to get to everything. Is there like a summary anywhere in a google shared doc or something for all known (and verified) coding changes? I can't edit the first post which has most of the info, but seems to miss some coding info added mid way through the thread.

I can also confirm the X431 CRP919E works for coding. I believe it (along with CRP919X which seems similar/same) are the cheapest options from Launch confirmed for coding. I got mine for around US$315 (~AU$475) from Ebay Australia (using a 20% off code) . It has a smaller screen than some other options but it seemed plenty big enough for me for this purpose.
