I received my new Launch X-431 Pro v.4 yesterday, and have spent a fair amount of time with it and the Cayman today.

I'm pretty pleased with the X-431 so far. Works great as a code reader (it knows I had pulled the fuse from the sound generator), and should do all the maintenance resets and other normal DIY stuff easily.

And the coding function appears to be fairly complete and robust. Here's the (updated) list of what I've done so far:
I've failed (so far) on a couple things, which means I either haven't found the true spot to change, or haven't found some other required spot (some changes need to be made in multiple locations).
  • Change Auto headlight sensitivity
  • Enable spoiler indicator light
*Have done this 2 ways, one with the white gauge face hack (that doesn't illuminate the needles), and one by adding the tail and parking lights to the DRLs, which illuminates the gauges and needles.

Still to come:
  • Enable NAV display in MFI (need LVDS cable)
Other things I'm thinking of that I'm not yet sure if they can be done:
  • Auto parking brake engage
  • Re-map tail light function to EU/RoW config
  • Enable PDK Coasting mode while A-S/S is off
Something I noticed to research further - There are some spoiler params that appear to indicate possible visual spoiler notification, either in MFI or console button light. First attempt did nothing, but I'm going to give that some more research later.

Anyway, so far, so good. Even if I don't get any of the other stuff to work, what I've done so far is great.

@GTS18BGTS I'm not very experienced with Android, and I don't recall seeing that either. But it looks to be a standard app security warning. You should click the Settings link, it should take you to the place to allow the update to happen.

Someone posts something like “I received my new Launch X-431 Pro v.4” and I just think they’re an idiot who never learned how to write. If you’re going to post such a thing, explain what you’re talking about. The point of writing is to communicate and if you fail to do so you’re missing the point. BTW, I have a Launch X-431 Pro v.4. It’s a sex robot. I highly recommend the battery upgrade as it can’t keep up without it.

Thanks for weighing in, and sorry if my lack of condescending description offended you.

It'd be interesting to see if one could program one of the following:
1. allow the garage door opener buttons (on roof) to function without key/power-on.
2. allow a button sequence on the fob to activate one of the garage door opening buttons (allowing opening of garage door while you walk up to car).

This is the only car I've ever had where I have to put the key in and key-on to be able to use the garage door opener buttons.

I took my first plunge into "coding" some changes. I did the teardrop wipe, comfort entry seat parameter and the spoiler deploy speed. Have any of you discovered how to enable the LED on the center console to illuminate when the spoiler is deployed automatically when driving?

I also noticed some differences in the menu options compared to what you both have been displaying in your posts when trying to locate component parameters. Not sure if it's just me not reading things correctly, a difference in software versions or something else. I'll have to get back to my car and garage to be more specific. That's for later :)

I found a parameter that appears as if it might address this, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet. Will report back on this one later.

I've seen those wording differences myself. I suspect that different software versions may have different translations from the original German. The main X-431 app on mine is v7.00.009, and the Porsche package is v23.99.

I've made a few parameter changes using the Launch, but what's made the price of entry totally worth it is changing the seat comfort entry and exit memory setting to extend the seat farther back when exiting the car. I set it at 45mm (1 3/4") vs 1". I did this to both cars and man it makes getting in and out some much nicer. No need to pull may knee up to my armpit to get my foot over the sill when getting out. Should save some wear and tear on the seat bolsters too. I can also get in the car the way Motorman does - plopping my butt down and then swiveling in. More leg room to do that because the seat is father back.

Exactly why I think is a worthy investment. It allows you to experiment and make the car better for you… for example, from ergonomics perspective, like it did for you.

BTW… I’ll be testing with different entry/drive options to see what setting is better for me. Thanks for bringing your experience.

I have tried to find the code to do this…. There is a code that I thought modified the “sun sensor” parameter (the sun sensor in in the dashboard and measures light intensity to turn on headlights)

Front-End Electronics : Exterior Light Parameter : Light Limit

I tested this extensively in my Macan, changing the light limit to from 12.5 to 7.5 W/m^2 didn't seem to have any effect. I changed it to 5.0 W/m^2 to see if that has any effect (with 3.4 W/m^2 being dark limit in theory). Again, my objective was to alter the auto-on feature of the automatic headlight so that is not as sensitive and can turn on my headlights in darker setting.

My headlights kept turning on automatically with plenty of light. It would only turn off automatically when there is direct sunlight.

I have not found any other parameter that would read light intensity (or more technically, solar irradiance). Maybe this is not the right parameter or the parameter needs to be modified another way (maybe with an offset). I have not tested this in the Cayman.

Performance Display Activation

CODING:
Instrument Cluster: Board computer display configuration key 1_1: BC Configuration byte 13-Performance Display = Active

Instrument Cluster: Board computer display configuration key 1_1: BC Configuration byte 22-BC Role Performance Display

This will display performance graph in the instrument cluster (Torque or Performance). Something similar to photo below….

Ask around in your area, and if you are a PCA member, ask other members. Many of us who do have one of these devices will happily do some code editing for others, either free, or maybe with the donation of a few bottles of good craft brew. If you were in Oregon, I'd be happy to help you.

This is what frustrates me as a PCA member is that communications are all one way from the PCA to me. I have no way of finding local PCA members unless I sign up super quickly for events that fill up way too rapidly and hope to meet the right people at an event. There isn't a way to chat with my local (Golden Gate) PCA members or post a "does anyone have a x431 coding tablet that I could use?". Or am I being stupid and missed something with the PCA?
(sorry for straying off-topic)

Any model with ECU coding capability will work well. The difference is most likely screen size and hardware. They are all Android based tablets. The software is just an app and they are the same. Most likely the difference is that pro3s+ has a 10” screen vs 8” in the V4.

You won’t go wrong with either.

But agree, they make it complicated with so many models.

When someone works out the cheapest way to do coding on a 718, please update here. Not sure if that is the Luanch app on a phone or something else. I just want to code a few minor things and will never use the device again, so not keen to spend lots of money on it. An app with a BT OBD2 dongle would be great if it is cheap. Even for subscription of an app for a short time.

It'd be killer if there was a way to automatically enable rev match in normal mode, or to simply start the car in a different mode than normal mode.

I know that the transportation laws/rules prevent rev match from automatically coming on on start (rev match has to be manually activated in all cars that have the feature), so it'd be nice to override this.

There is no way I have found (and I have looked extensively, especially for my Macan) to start the car other than in normal mode. So, I’ve become used to pressing the sport button in my Macan or turn the knob to sport in my Cayman every time I start them.

I do know that for the Macan, there is a 3rd party module you can install that remembers the last driving mode state… but I’m OK pressing the button for now, until someone discovers how to do this via coding…

@Arne (or anyone else): any chance you’ve figured out how to enable the nav display on the TFT in the instrument cluster? I hacked the PCM to add nav, and ran the LVDS cable from the PCM to the cluster. But I can’t figure out how to enable it using the Launch x431. I’ve seen the screenshots other users have posted from PIWIS, and don’t see a similar option in Launch.

Well, while I have also activated NAV in my PCM, I've not run a cable to the cluster, so I've never looked for the options in X431. I'd be happy to poke around some to look for it, but my car is in its cold weather storage and not here at home right now. Might be a few weeks or more before I get to this.
