I've had the Burm in my Macan S since May 2014 and also have it in my 3 month old GTS 4.0. To my ears and enjoyment the Burm in the GTS is far superior to the Bose/Base options in the Cayman, but of course comes at a price. I'll also share that the Burm in my Macan is conservatively 10 times better, fuller, richer, more natural than the Cayman Burm. YMMV hope this helps.

My SA didn't recommend it - he said it was better spent in a Cayenne / Macan / Panamera. The sports cars are noisier environments and the Bose & Burmeister options in the other models have more speakers and more amplification over the 718. The 911 options are more higher power, more speaker count as well

in the Cayman - you have the engine compartment within the cabin since its a hatchback body style vs. the Boxster which has the cabin isolated from the top of the engine

since I'm getting CGTS, the Bose system was available and that's my selection. I have Bose in another car and I've been happy with the 8 speaker setup (specs were not advertised for what amplification power it has)
I went cheap with my 2020CS, base audio is terrible! My 2022 CGTS4.0 has Bose and very happy with it. But it's only used in town (rarely) or cruising a highway (again, rarely). Good luck. You'll always love the sound of the engine behind you.

Good day. Would like to get some real life feedback and info on available audio option on 718: want to understand the differences between the Base audio system, Bose and Burmester. Although I really enjoy the sound of the 4.0 engine, I also enjoy good clear and loud music once in a while. I’m also thinking about resale value and if the extra 1000$ on Bose and 6000$ on burmeister is a good investment both for resale and for my own enjoyment.
I appreciate all the feedback you can give related to this.
THANK YOU.
I had the bose before waasn't impressed. I went with the standard and am very happy with it. I have a high end system at home and find the standard 9 speaker system as good as my home system. Personally I would not upgrade. I also bought the split a/c heater and wouldn't go for that upgrade. Not worth it. The upgrades that I find the most important are the lane assist and the 24 way seats. We use our cars as daily drivers. Absolutely love the Cayman. Have hardly driven the Carrera since we bought. Never thought I would like the Cayman better than the 911 series but I have totally changed my mind. After 8 911's I would go for the Cayman 718. The 911's have gotten so much power that I find the the rear end waants to get to the destination before the front end.

In the FWIW department:
I have heard only the Bose system. I bought my car from dealer inventory, the only one they had at that time, and it is Bose. I'm happy with it. When I'm sitting still it sounds awesome, including the subwoofer. When I'm driving, the rest of the car makes lots of tire and engine noise. I can turn the audio up plenty loud, but the "full audio experience" will never be concert hall quality with all that noise. Do check whether the settings are good, bad, or indifferent. You never know how someone else set them. The "surround sound" option just makes voices sound muddled, a problem if you are trying to hear a news or sports report while driving. The compensation for car volume is a nice touch. The tone controls can be whatever you want, but I generally leave mine flat, with "linear volume". (I believe that "linear volume" settings is the traditional bass-compensation from old-style stereo pre-amps.)

I certainly would not pay $6000 for the Burmeister upgrade. The audio environment isn't worth it, IMHO.

I have posted this next point a few times but it is generally ignored by the audio-power junkies. A car's interior is about the worst environment possible for good audio. Good audio is far more than just power, though power is necessary to cut through road and engine noise. In a car, the difference between good and great audio can be indiscernible, especially with enough road noise, so just getting more power might be sufficient for most people. (Some credentials: I spent 10 years as an engineer at Lexicon (a Bose competitor) working on high-end consumer and pro-audio gear. I developed and wrote the coding for a very effective surround-sound room correction system for the MC-12. Once I actually worked out the complex algebra formulas to use head-shadow effect to try to accommodate both driver's and passenger's stereo sound stage in a car. The company did not follow up on the effort though and I was never able to determine if the final result was degenerate or contained numerical anomalies.)
I've had my Box since April and haven't looked at the audio controls - thanks for the inspiration to make the appropriate adjustments, as I've been thinking the Bose is pretty dull... of course, the pop-top makes it noisier than your cayman.

As previously stated, it's personal preference.
I'm a car and music lover and the Burmester in my BGTS 4.0 brings me a level of joy commensurate with that of my automobile.

I have the 10 speaker Bose system in my 718s. To be honest it’s more than enough. Very loud and great quality. Even with the roof down on the motorway you can easily drown out the road noise. You can also tinker with some of the Bose options to optimize the sounds (such as a spatial feature) which is Fab.

Been saying for some time, the BOSE depends on getting set correctly - imho.
I do also believe - personally - that having the best quality download (if that's what media you are using) also makes a difference here.
For ref - I am using wireless Carplay + Amz music - it all works rather splendidly.
It was/also interesting to learn that the sounds are different or perceived to be with these systems depending on if in a Box or Cay. As per this post, I also have a Boxster and it the BOSE is very loud.

That’s great info from a relevant source, Having owned so many 911’s. Would like to hear more on why you prefer the 718. I’m awaiting delivery of my 718 GTS in a few months. This is my first Porsche. THANK YOU in advance.

Not to jump in, but I went from a 2005 911S Cab to a 2014 Cayman S and now a 2022 Cayman GTS. The 911 that I had was the "997" vintage. The 991 got bigger and less visceral, and the 992 is starting to look like a 2 door Panamera coupe to me. Don't get me wrong, the 911 performance is exceptional. But the "feel" has gotten bigger and less intimate. I also prefer the balanced mid engine handling to the rear heavy handling fo the 911. If you are really looking to experience the nimble and visceral sports car feel, the 718's especially the T and GTS, GT4 and Spyder are great choices. The 911 is also a great choice, but with more of a "grand touring" feel than I was looking fro.

Cool and thanks. I’m definitely after the sports car feel. Nimble car to toss around the track. Like a go kart.

The BOSE only has 3 issues.

Treble, mid and low.
Treble is tiring, harsh and fatigue.
Mid is boxy like you are talking into a paper shoebox
Low end/ bass is loose and uncontrolled, unprecise, boomy.

I tried every different settings with every source possible (mostly lossless) and I don't like it in my BGTS. Yes it can be loud but for me it's not even close to HiFi standard, it's like those JBL Bluetooth speakers. It can be loud but that's it.

I have to replace the tweeters to burm as it's the most annoying issue with it, and put a tweeter into the back as in the rear it only has mid and it's so annoyingly bad behind me that I have to use fader to front.

I am really disappointed with BOSE and tried in 3 different cars with the same results.

Yes, I am new to Porsche and still learning "the ways." I am finding that reselling a Porsche is high priority and weight savings is not at all. I guess when I switched to Porsche from BMWs, I thought more would care about weight. I was even thrown for a loop when I first started to look at Porsches, the salesperson kept talking about resale value non-stop and I asked if I could get a different one that would relate to a performance enthusiast.

Yes, the radio does not add a lot of weight and it would make little difference in the 4.0 which is already heavier than the T. I was not against adding the subwoofer, amp and extra weight for the radio if it sounded a lot better. Buying the T and trying to keep it as light as possible is what made me stop and think about options. I would've added the Bose if it sounded significantly better, but it didn't to me. I also would've added the much heavier 18 way seats if the 2 ways were uncomfortable, but they 2 ways were great. I did add the larger, slightly heavier tank, because that did add value per pound added to me. So just wanted to make sure that I was not against adding any weight, I was against adding weight blindly without thinking about it. That's all. With that said, there are about 3 of us left in the entire Porsche community that probably still care about stuff like that.....I just wish I could find the other 2! : )

Yes, if resale ease is a high priority, then I agree, it might be quicker to sell especially if you get a common combination where there are many like yours and maybe Bose might tip someone to yours or they might put Bose in the search engine.

Anyway, the poster asked how we arrived at the decision so I shared it. Hope it helps and if anyone knows the other 2 guys in the Porsche universe that care about keeping cars light, focused on performance and simple, tell them Inigo Montoya is looking for them......not to kill them... I already took care of the six-fingured man, just to chat!

Best wishes.
Sounds like you would have liked a Lotus Evora instead? Great cars, I hear.

I really like the Evora a lot but the later ones got weird and there was no Lotus dealership in San Diego. I truly love the Cayman T...it is a really cool car for some. While everyone knows the GT4 and GTS are amazing, the T is really special to me. I really don't like most new cars and have been buying used cars to fill the need for lighter, focused, analog cars but was getting tired of buying others people's problems. I wanted one last new car that has light, focused, had an LSD, firm suspension, cloth seats, a great manual gearbox, white on black instruments and a screen below the dash line. I want to drive the crap out of it with as little worry as possible. The T fit that bill and nothing else did. The Evora was close but with no local dealership and uncertainty about where to get parts and service was something that weighed on me. So yes, I like the Evora very much but I am happier with the Cayman now that I have it.
